“What Is Up With Yo Eye!?” – The great Eddie Griffin in the seminal 2001 comedy “Double Take”Vintage Patek chronographs are in many ways perfectly proportioned.  There is a reason that they are regularly considered the archetypes of the the modern wristwatch.  But, say the year is 1942 and you aren’t very happy with a perfect case and idealic symmetry to your wristwatch’s dial. Say, you want strange scroll lugs and an oversized minutes register that just doesn’t seem to make any sense.  Well, then you’d be the person responsible for the watch above – a completely unique and totally bizarre Patek Philippe chronograph reference 1491.

We love the Royal Oak. A lot. So much in fact that we are throwing it a 40th birthday party right here in New York City.

Actually, Audemars Piguet is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak with a truly incredible exhibition of more than 100 different examples of the watch that changed everything, many of which are leaving the Le Brassus Museum for the very first time.

The exhibition will be open for four days (March 21-24) and will be open to the public.  The collection of watches from Audemars Piguet will be set atop the artwork of famed contemporary artists Sebastien Leon Agneessens, Quayola and Dan Holdsworth.

On the night of Friday, March 23rd, HODINKEE will host a special celebration in honor of the Royal Oak.  While specifics will follow, we invite all of our readers, both new and old, to join us for a private viewing of the watches (with cocktails, of course).  RSVP is required, and we welcome everyone interested in attending to send us an email with the number and names of who will be attending.

See you there!

There is tropical, and then there is just downright ridiculous. As we’ve told you before, serious vintage Rolex collectors love it when the black part of a dial turns brown – they call it “chocolate” or “tropical.”  In many cases, people will pay a large premium for tropical dials.

The watch we spotted today over on VRF goes beyond chocolate and beyond tropical – in fact the damn dial is so faded it’s illegible to the naked eye.

What it is is a vintage Tudor Submariner Ref 7298 with pointed crown guards – a pretty cool and valuable piece.  But, the dial on this one is, well, really, really ridiculously faded.

Besides the incredibly faded dial (seller claims you can read it with a loupe), the watch looks OK.  What’s funny is, we bet there are some guys out there that are salivating at the chance to own a vintage Sub this tropical.

This vintage 7298 Tudor Sub is listed over at VRF for $ 13,500 here.

Editor’s Note: This post should read neither as an endorsement or criticism of this seller’s listing.  It is up to any individual buyer to do all reasonable due diligence when making a purchase.

Question by Chris Greenwood

before they had done any good or evil? Is this what the Bible says and teaches?

Best answer:

Answer by Ross
If one sees God that way he cannot know God and therefore, he cannot know His son.

We must realize that was written before His son made his appearance. We’ve had 2000 years to see God differently.
