I know this is a legitimate Rolex. Was with my father when he bought it for himself. He doesn't like it anymore and give it to me a few months ago as a gift. I don't have any of the papers and I'm not sure if he does either. Will any jewelry shops prove its legitimacy? I know it would improve the value/be easier to sell if I could get it some sort of certificate for it. Also, what would be a decent price for it? He paid $5000 at the time and I believe this was about 5 years ago.

A jewelry store can help if they are a Rolex dealer. Such a service is not free. You might want to check some stuff before you take it for an apraisal.

Also there are web sites that offer suggestions. The only problem with the sites is they are pretty much clueless. I know this because I have a real Rolex and a fake that cost about $300. The fake is so good that it passes all the tests given on the sites. The fake came with a cheap box, but no papers. My real Rolex came with a box, and a lot of paperwork.

Paperwrok will add to the value of the watch.

I discovered that replicas can come in all levels of quality. Cheap ones can be had for $50. Good ones can cost $1200.

Just for fun, I did a side by side comparison between the real and fake watches. I discovered the following:

1. My replica will stop running if placed near a strong magnet. My real Rolex will not stop. I have noted that even the band of my real Rolex not will react to a magnet at all. I am sure all replicas will have at least some parts that are attracted to a magnet.
2. My replica will make a slight scraping sound when I shake it side to side. The winding weight inside it can be felt moving. On the real Rolex the movement of the weight is undetectable.
3. The bezel on a replica makes a distinct click sound when turned. The Rolex bezel moves smoothly, in very small steps, with hardly a sound.
4. If I take my Replica and set it on a table it will keep time for about 20 hours before it stops. My real rolex will keep time for about two days.

hi all.. there is Daytona Rolex watch.. it seems original, all the knobs are 100% functioning, and i checked the refrence number stamped on its back on the internet, and the results wer for the exact same model "the daytona Rolex", and every thing looks fine, but im still not sure..
so can u ppl plz tell me about some measures and parameters to findout the originality ???

If it 'seems original' on what basis are you making that assessment? Rolex watches have individual serial numbers that you can check with a legitimate Rolex dealer.

it should have Receipt and papers and a TAMPER PROOF serial number on those papers

You need to compare it to a high quality image of a real rolex.

Look at the post beside the winder closely.

Look at the machining of the watch.

I have a fake rolex submariner.

And visually it is perfect, except for the machining of the post, on each side of the winder.
