Is speed your mantra? The Breitling Bentley Supersports timepiece limited series of chronographs is an engineered tribute to start your engines.

Breitling for Bentley Supersports timepiece design presents a virtual “dashboard-style” dial that will, as the lyrics of song “Born to be Wild” says it best, “Get your motor runnin’; Head out on the highway; Lookin’ for adventure;…Racin’ with the wind…”; leave you feeling like you were born to be wild. Breitling for Bentley Supersports has a Royal Ebony dial accentuated with ringed counters and inner bezels available in vibrant colors of blue, orange or white. It bears Bentleys’ doubled wing B signature emblem (at 12 o’clock) – its mark of distinction. It is the super chronograph that commemorates the Bentley Continental Supersports ISR donned the fastest and most powerful car ever made by the British manufacturer and is also the holder of the world ice speed record, at a breathtaking speed of 205.48 mph.

The Breitling for Bentley Supersports sporty chassis houses Breitling Calibre 26B movement, self-winding chronograph movement chronometer, which is certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), high-frequency (28,800 vibrations per hour), 38 jewels, center 60 minute totalizer, 12 hour totalizer and calendar.

It has a 49 mm diameter steel case with a cambered sapphire crystal, which is glare-proof on both sides. The wrist strap is available in Barenia leather, Bentley leather, crocodile leather or rubber/Speed. Its instrumentation includes a rotating bezel that activates the variable tachometer – Breitlings’ exclusive feature that measures average speed of time elapsed; and it is embellished with a distinctive knurled motif found on Bentley dashboard controls.

Breitling and Bentley are brands sharing a commitment to always manufacture instruments built with precision and performance. It is this shared heritage of excellence that attracted the two to partner and develop an exceptional collection of chronographs in 2003. 2003 also marked Bentley’s glorious return to the winners circle when its cars won at Le Mans. Bentleys’ cars won 2 car races in amazing style, taking the first two places in the ranking. Breitling partnered with Bentley and issued a limited edition chronograph which sold out in exceptional speed; these wins lead to the Breitling for Bentley collections. Breitling for Bentley series unifies these two worlds of sophistication and proficiency – British chic and Swiss tradition.

The Breitling for Bentley Supersports collection is available in three colors (orange, white and blue) and has a limited edition of 1000-piece per color. The fact that Breitling for Bentley Supersports collections have sold out so quickly in the past, is an advisable suggestion for connoisseurs interested in this collection put the pedal to the metal to purchase one of these distinctive timepieces before they are gone.

Jay-Z and his watches.  Historically, he’s been an AP man.  He even had a limited edition watch created in his honor, and donated his personal Audemars Piguet Las Vegas Tourbillon to charity, which ended up selling for $ 220,000 to this man.  Then, with the release of Watch The Throne, the world heard him say “New Watch Alert: HUBLOT” (he can be seen wearing a Hublot Classic Fusion in the video).

Then, over the summer we saw Jay wearing one of the coolest watches on this green earth, the incredible Richard Mille RM027 while sitting courtside at the US Open.  After that, we spotted a Rolex GMT gifted to an engineer on his Watch The Throne album with Kanye West.  And now, after Jay-Z’s historic two night gig at Carnegie Hall (all for charity, we might add), we have some new watch alerts, including one you may not expect…

Panerai is hosting a tribute to Galileo with the unveiling of new collections which are celebrating the famed astronomers scientific contributions and his impact on modern timepieces.

On November 2nd 2011, luxury watch manufacturer Officine Panerai hosted “Time and Space: A look back at the Clockwork Universe” at the famed Explorers Club in Manhattan, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Galileo discovering the four largest moons of Jupiter. Rafael Alvarez, president of Panerai’s North American Operations co hosted the event which included explorers, astronauts and some of the world’s leading astronomers. On display were three of the most unique timepieces Panerai has created, the L’ Astronomo, Lo Scienziato and a planetarium clock entitled Jupiterium. Panerai was offered 2 million euros for the Jupiterium but decided to donate the clock to the Museum of Science which has recently been reopened as Museo Galileo after two years of extensive remodeling. Panerai representatives intimated that the decision to not sell the clock was due to its creation being a showmanship of their watchmaking talent. All of these magnificent timepieces will also be on display at The Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva which opens on January 16th 2012.

Officine Panerai's 'Jupiterium'

News for the brand continues with the creation of the 3000P, which features a new hand wound movement in a sleek 5.3mm case. It has a three day power reserve, 21 jewels with over 20 thousand alterations per hour. The construction is solid with a large brush finished bridge that covers the mechanical parts of the watch. This calibre was created in direct response to the Asian markets incline toward compact movements.

Earlier in the year Mr. Panerai launched an exhibition “Time and Space: A tribute to Galileo Galilei” that is currently traveling throughout Italy honoring the astronomers great achievements. The exhibit features more than 100 vintage Panerai timepieces in addition to tools and instruments used during the evolution of mechanical watch manufacturing. This comprehensive exhibit will be appreciated by Panerai fans and horology aficionados, since it includes a rare collection of timepieces that were created in the 1930s by Panerai, when he was the official supplier for the Italian Navy. In an opening ceremony Angelo Bonati, CEO of Panerai Italy said ‘This successful exhibition is also celebrating Officine Panerai’s honored past and the brands bold step into the future.’ He also announced plans to open 20 new boutiques in the region within the next few years.

Since its introduction in 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso has acted as the blank slate on which so many great stories have been told and tributes have been paid.  Now, in 2012, one more tribute will be made using the Reverso, one that in our opinion, couldn’t make more sense.

In 2007, Matthew Weiner and the team from AMC introduced a television show about 1960s Ad Men that has since not only become the first television show in history to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series four years in a row, but also had a profound impact on fashion, design, and watches.  Think about how many times you’ve flipped through the pages of a magazine and seen a “Mad Men” style shoot.  Or how many times you’ve heard the thin, formal style of wristwatch now being referred to as “very Mad Men.”  In tribute to the incredible story of Mad Men and the connection Jaeger-LeCoultre has had with its stars and creators, we bring you the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Ultra-Thin Tribute To “Mad Men”.

The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is one of those watches that is revered by all vintage watch fans.  Hell, even their boxes sell for over $ 1300 these days.  It was one of, if not the, very first dedicated dive watches, and its story rather dramatic (click here for that).  The Fifty Fathoms has seen a host of different variations throughout its life, but none more iconic than that with the “No Radiation” dial.

In 2010, Blancpain brought back the “No Radiation” dial Fifty Fathoms in a new 45mm case, and just the other day we got to play with one.  The watch is a fitting tribute to the original, though considerably “shinier”.  It does look like the original Fifty Fathoms but wears much bigger, which is not necessarily a bad thing to many.

It is a limited edition of 500 pieces in stainless steel and retails for $ 15,300.  For more details, click here.

Related Posts: At Basel this year, Blancpain did something we’ve never seen done before. They put their power reserve indicator at the rotor! Click here for a video of that.

Breitling USA Watch Front Breitling Chronomat 44 Limited Edition US Veterans Tribute Watch

As an interesting limited edition watch for the United States, this Breitling Chronomat 44 watch will be limited to just 50 pieces and bear the Great Seal of the United States along with the message “Breitling for America. United We Stand” on the rear of the watch.

A few years ago the Chronomat 44 watch came out and contained Breitling’s first in-house made movement called the Caliber 01 chronograph automatic. 44mm wide and in Breitling’s lovely polished steel case, this watch serves as a fitting base for the limited edition. This model with its black textured dial and red accents is a real handsome piece. The case and dial design are aging very gracefully and this is truly a handsome piece. Breitling is actually one of the only brands that does make watches simply too large for my wrists, and I almost never say that. This 44mm wide version of the Chronomat isn’t one of them however.

Breitling USA Watch Back Breitling Chronomat 44 Limited Edition US Veterans Tribute Watch

Depending on who you are and your perception of the message on the rear of this watch you’ll either love it or hate it. When it comes down to it, this is Breitling banking on the power of iconography to push this piece to the patriotic US consumer. Would it be cool to have a Breitling watch with the Great Seal of the US on the back? Sure. Would I pay a handsome premium for it? Not sure. Another carrot is that sales proceeds of the 50 watches will go to benefit the Fischer House Foundation charity.

Breitling USA Watch Front side Breitling Chronomat 44 Limited Edition US Veterans Tribute Watch

The Fischer House Foundation is a charity that produces housing for the families of soldiers in the military who are receiving medical treatments. The housing is meant to be temporary housing for the families while they stay nearby VA centers and other military hospitals while their loved ones get care and treatment. It is a pretty legit foundation.

Overall the pieces are really nice, but I don’t see much of a connection to veterans on the watch itself. The watch itself is about Breitling and America (sort of), while the charity doesn’t really connect with the timepiece theme. If you think about it, Breitling designers could have done some awesomely artistic stuff using the concept of remembering veterans (in the US and around the world). Those people interested in these limited edition Chronomat 44 US Veteran Tribute watches will only be able to find them at Breitling boutiques in New York City and Aventura, Florida. Or call (855) 999-1884. I recommend that you call and just talk about any ol’ Breitling stuff. Price for each of the 50 pieces is $ 8,960.
