Montblanc TimeWriter II Chronographe Bi-Fréquence 1000 has managed to defy the three-dimensional world and has instead ventured into the fourth dimension of time. This amazing chronograph watch is capable of measuring elapsed intervals to the nearest 1/1,000 of a second all while oscillating at a pace of 50 hertz. Amazing indeed.

Montblanc’s team of master watch makers at its ateliers (workshops) in Villeret created an incredible timepiece in the TimeWriter II Bi-Fréquence 1000. Inspired by “Foundation Minerva,” founded in 2008, to create and design watches at bi-annual interval, which advances the authentic Swiss art of watchmaking culture and future.

Montblanc TimeWriter II Chronographe Bi-Fréquence 1000 does not showcase chronograph buttons despite the fact that it is a chronograph watch. It possesses only one button making it a monopusher. This button is located at 12 o’clock and just below this button is the watch dial extends and promises complicated mechanical timekeeping in its purest form.

Montblanc TimeWriter II Chronographe Bi-Fréquence 1000 Attributes. It showcases small but discreet hour and minute hands. Seconds are located at 9 o’clock and tracked by a rotating disk of sapphire crystal which works in conjunction with an immobile triangular index; both displays accurately maintains time in part to a large screw balance which swings at a traditional pace of 18,000 hourly semi-oscillations, 2.5 Hz, and is partially visible through the skeletonized dial which is located at 7 o’clock. The remaining indicators serve the chronograph function.

Chronograph Features. The chronograph balance can be seen at half past ten and oscillates at a rate of 360,000 A/h, 50 Hz, when initiated. The red chronograph indicator begins with an elapsed-seconds hand which completes one full 360 ?rotation every second ensuring it tip sprints along the hundredths-of-a-second scale on the dial’s periphery. The reserve of power indicator is an inset cartouche located at 3 o’clock, which when fully wound is sustained for forty-five minutes. Another arrow-tipped indicator is located at 12 o’clock which runs along a calibrated arcing scale from N, for neutral, through zero, onward to nine-thousandths of a second.

Technical Attributes. Montblanc TimeWriter II Chronographe Bi-Fréquence 1,000 meticulously reveals its complications and splendor of its internal caliber. Its black skeletonize dial provides a visual exercise of its complicated movement, revealing two balances and multiple hand-polished levers. Its contoured 47 mm diameter 18K white gold case gently flows into its horns. Its frequency movement is 50 hertz minimizing friction and reduces wear on the watch. The crown displays Montblanc’s star-shaped logo located at 3 o’clock. The chronograph button is positioned mid-point between the horns at 12 o’clock which marries harmonious with the watch’s overall design and styling. The caseback is sapphire crystal which again provides another inside view of Montblanc TimeWriter II Chronographe Bi-Fréquence 1,000 mechanical features. It has a beautiful black alligator leather wrist strap with a white gold buckle.

Montblanc TimeWriter II Chronographe Bi-Fréquence 1,000 is an extremely limited edition of 36 watches, a number which pays tribute to the year 1936, when Minerva built an ultra-fast stopwatch that earned mention in the Guinness Book of Records.

Elite connoisseurs the Montblanc TimeWriter II Chronographe Bi-Fréquence 1,000 is calling just for you.

Time flies

TAG Heuer stole the thunder at Baselworld with its Mikrotimer, the first mechanical chronograph to measure and display 1/1000th of a second. Beyond the exploit, the Mikrotimer demonstrates the La Chaux-de-Fonds brand’s ongoing, in-depth research into the watch’s main organs. By Thierry Brandt – WatchElse – The Watchmaking Audiovisuel Magazine on iPad & iPhone Standing room only in the auditorium, a live webcast of the press conference, thunderous applause at the end of the presentation: TAG Heuer whipped up a media frenzy at Baselworld 2011. And for good (horological) reason. For once, what pulled in the crowds wasn’t some “face of the brand” picking up a fat cheque for not much, nor a Hollywood starlet with a décolleté down to her navel, but a watch. The Mikrotimer Flying 1000 chronograph. Is the result on a par with the hype? And how! Only a few months ago, TAG Heuer was unveiling the Mikrograph mechanical wrist chronograph which measures and displays 1/100th of a second. Now things suddenly got ten times better. It’s impressive. Holding the watch for a demonstration, we strained to follow the central chronograph hand making its ten revolutions per second. A performance of this… calibre not to mention a heartbeat of an astounding 3600000 vibrations/hour will have obliged the engineers and watchmakers at TAG Heuer to invent some original solutions. Leading them is Guy Semon, a man who’s accomplished miracles since taking over at the head of TAG Heuer’s R&D. Semon is an

The Paul Newman Daytona is undoubtedly a watch most vintage Rolex guys strive to own, but it’s also quite possibly the most dangerous watch to buy.  You see, a Paul Newman is an expensive watch, and Newman waters are murky, and full of sharks – often times Italian, Dutch, and Vietnamese sharks that know a thing or two about manufacturing dials.  So, when buying a Paul Newman, you’ll want as much faith in your seller as possible, and preferably, some original documents too.

Which brings us to this Paul Newman above.  This watch was purchased from the original owner who wore it only to weddings and funerals, and it retains the entire, complete original package as it was when purchased on January 1, 1974 at Bucherer in Zurich (something tells us he received a little bit more than the 656 SFr he paid for this when he sold it).  The quality and condition of this 6241 is superb, and the white of the dial is as bright as any we’ve seen.  Just a great watch, and if you’re looking for a PN, it’s worth looking at this one.

Detail here.
