Girard-Perregaux is extending its charity-inspired romp through the color pallet with a new edition of its Sea Hawk II dive watch. Not long ago, we told you about the “Green Auction” version and today we learned of the “Big Blue” which is perhaps a more fitting color choice for a diver. The watch will be introduced at the World Oceans Day event at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on June 5th, in conjunction with the screening of a Susan Rockefeller documentary called, “Mission of Mermaids.”

If you’re a regular reader of HODINKEE, you’re already familiar with the Sea Hawk II Pro, a watch we took diving, and the recent Green Auction edition. The Big Blue edition is mechanically identical to the others, with its manufacture calibre GP033R0 with power reserve complication, housed in a 1,000 meter water resistant steel case. Differences of this one are the blue dial and rubber strap and the world map in the power reserve meter. If you take this one diving, you’ll be able to admire the dial a long ways down, since blue is one color that remains highly visible at deeper depths. Just don’t go to 1,000 meters.

The MoMa World Oceans Day event takes place at MoMa on June 5, 2012 from 6-9pm.

Okay, so NO, I am NOT a fan of Miley Cyrus, but this one song is just inspiring. I have my reasons for not liking her, but PLEASE, do not comment about her! I want comments on the video, not Miley Cyrus. Well, I haven’t done an equestrian video in months, so I felt that I owed you all one. So here you go! Exams are coming up, so this might be the only one until summer. Sorry, life just comes first! Some of these clips are mine, and others belong to their rightful owners. Two of such are Woznme and PostandRailCreative. Sub! www.youtube.com www.youtube.com EEK! HONORS ALREADY?!?! Great vintage watches from Audemars Piguet do not come up for sale often.  They are rarer than vintage Vacherons or Pateks, especially in modern sizes and aesthetics.  There are a few vintage AP’s that do well at auction – obviously the early Royal Oaks (we’ll get to chose later today) – but also the traditional chronographs like this that pulled down $ 386,000 and this triple-date moonphase chrono that made almost $ 90,000.  Next month, there is a great chance to buy some really special watches from Audemars Piguet that date to the brand’s formative years, and are unlike the watches offered from them today.

Below, we take a look at five vintage AP’s coming up for sale in May from Antiquorum and Christie’s, and there is not a single hexagonal screw in sight.

I reposted this video to help another watch enthusiast on the dive watch forum at EOT, but please note, that if you haven’t done this before, it’s best to cover your watch with masking tape to protect it. I’m obviously quite comfortable doing this and to me it’s just a watch, but for some of the more squeamish viewers, this maybe too difficult to watch. As with anything, if you don’t want to take chances, go to a professional and have this done there instead. Hope this is helpful to some.

Helmut Sinn, the founder of the eponymously-named watch company famous for its robust aviation-inspired tool watches, is selling off some of his own collection. Herr Sinn, a former pilot and flight instructor, founded his watch company in the late 1950s and the brand quickly became known for its overengineered timepieces that are highly functional in all conditions. Helmut Sinn sold the company to Lothar Schmidt in 1994 and went on to pursue other ventures with brands such as Chronosport and Guinard.

I would suggest you look at Citizen Eco-Drives. They are nickel free, and water proof up to 50 meters. The watch never needs a new battery, they are driven by light. The watches come in a variety of styles and price ranges.
