After ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Michael Kors shares rose by an impressive 25 percent.

As the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. began to trade on December 15th 2011, it was immediately apparent that a decision made the day before, to increase the public offering of the stock and price it above the expected range, was ingenious. After the last trade of the day was made and the closing bell had rung, Michael Kors had sold 47.2 million shares, raising 944 million dollars and bringing the company’s net worth to 3.8 billion. The success of the day was attributed to a continued appetite of luxury items by consumers globally.

Michael Kors at the New York Stock Exchange

Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. was one of ten companies to go public during the month and marked the end of December 2011 as the most active ‘IPO week’ in over 4 years for NYSE. The exceptional opening day for Mr. Kors was also a history making event since the IPO was the largest ever for a U.S. fashion company. You can find the stock on the NYSE ticker trading under KORS or contact one of their underwriters at Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan or Goldman Sachs.

The Michael Kors brand is favored by celebrities to politicians and his line has become an essential accessory for the fashion conscious. Although it is considered a ‘Luxury Brand’ much of the product is manufactured to augment an ordinary lifestyle. You can find a reasonably priced chronograph or over-sized ceramic without much effort. A new addition to the 2012 line is the “Michael Kors Dipped-Dial Baguette Chronograph” that is housed in a 44mm stainless steel ‘Gunmetal’ case and features dark grey baguette style insets. It is manufactured with tonal stop accents and a stop watch function.

Since creating the brand in 1981 Michael Kors has established his line in the luxury arena of fashion. In addition to watches the brand also has a firm presence with an abundance of men’s or women’s accessories, fragrances and jewelry. The Michael Kors label can be found worldwide in fashionable boutiques and department stores from Sacks Fifth Avenue to Nordstrom and Macy’s. Michael Kors items can also be purchased at over 200 ‘Michael Kors’ stores located throughout North America, Japan and Europe.

We do not generally do PSAs but we have reviewed a series of Benarus watches in the past (see: Moray, Worldiver, and Remora) and thanks to their high quality, unique style, and attractive pricing, they quickly sold out. We received a few disappointed emails as some of you tried to get a Benarus only to find it was too late.

Benarus models are produced in limited editions and the watch collecting community snatches them up quickly, often in pre-orders and months before they are available. If you have been waiting for an opportunity to put a Benarus on your wrist (or under your tree), then you are in luck as they have limited stock of a series of models including the Moray Ti, Moray 3, the newest iteration of the Remora (now featuring a sapphire bezel), and even the Megalodon.

Benarus does not produce indefinite pieces of any one model, each model range is constantly evolving and being offered in very limited supply. Benarus recently announced the open availability of these models so we didn’t want to keep the info to ourselves, especially this close to gift-giving season. We love hearing about new watches so if you do get a Benarus (or any other watch) tweet @watchreport a photo.

Question by terry1

I have been searching for an answer to this question and even emailed the NYSE to no avail….

Best answer:

Answer by Harry Hayfield
I got an answer from the NASDAQ a few weeks ago and I suspect that the NYSE is pretty much the same. Basically the only people allowed to ring the opening / closing bell at the NASDAQ and NYSE are:

Chairmen of listed companies
Special Guests (for instance heads of state or visiting finance ministers)
Charties (at Christmas and New Year)

The bell symbolizes the closing of the market. I’m not sure why people clap. They clap whether the broad markets close up or down.

For example, “before the bell” news says a company A will buy company B at $ 100 per share when the before the bell price is $ 70. Can place an order to buy that stock at $ 70 so when trading begins I have it?

Best answer:

Answer by BIll Q
No. When company A announces it will buy company B at $ 100 per share, no one in their right mind will sell you company B shares at $ 70, even if you place an order before the bell.

Bell & Ross Question&Answer:

Question by secretasianman

I wanted to create a Flash Mob event where I need a stock market bell, does anyone have any ideas on how to make one or using random items to simulate the same sound?

Best answer:

Answer by Max M
If you’re a rookie in investing or stocks, go to

www.finance.yahoo.com.

Open up a portfolio without using real money. You can give yourself as much or as little money to try out the market. The stocks you want to focus on is consumer staples, consumer discretionary, and healthcare. These are DEFENSIVE stocks that will survive through good and bad times. Most of my positions are in these stocks. Some names include 3M, Procter & Gamble, Kimberly Clark, Exxon Mobil, Walmart, Costco. Everybody’s got to eat and wipe their butts regardless of the state of economy. Many of these companies survived through the Great Depression.

That’s the benefits. You can sleep at night knowing your money is doing well. There are NO guarantees that you won’t lose money. It’s just that these stocks are the best. They pay good dividends too.

Then once you’re comfortable and test the waters of the market, you can finally put some real money in. Go to Scottrade.com. They’re excellent for beginners.

If you’re new to stocks, DON’T DAY TRADE. You’ll a rookie in a world of professionals. I tried day-trading with Citigroup and AIG when they were a little bit over $ 1. I had some luck at first, making about $ 30 a day but I was way over my head. My luck didn’t last long and I had to rethink my strategy.

Day trading involves A LOT of commissions to the broker. With all the commissions deducted from each trade, you’ll be lucky if you only lose half your money.

I would just day trade using Yahoo! Finance. Open a stimulation account, give yourself $ 100 worth of fake money and play it in the stimulation format. You’ll see what I mean by losing money every easily.

Good luck.

Question by chameleon_crp: How do you create a bell curve for a stock?
I am trying to create a bell curve for stocks. I would like to create a bell curve in excel with 10 weeks worth of the stocks data. Which data do i use? Do i use the stocks highs, lows, or close? Much help is needed.

Best answer:

Answer by Blazenskyy.com
In general you would us a closing stock price to track the progression of a stock. I don’t think a bell curve is the terminology I would use to describe stock prices more like a line chart. Bell curves are used for statistics and for probability analysis.

Jacob Lake Arizona – tack room and stock corral
Jacob

This area of northern Arizona was explored and settled by Jacob Hamblin. Jacob Lake is named for him.

"Jacob Hamblin (April 6, 1819 – August 31, 1886) was a Western pioneer, Mormon missionary, and diplomat to various Native American Tribes of the Southwest and Great Basin. During his life, he helped settle large areas of southern Utah and northern Arizona where he was seen as an honest broker between Mormon settlers and the Natives. He is sometimes referred to as the "Buckskin Apostle," or the "Apostle to the Lamanites."[1] Source Wikipedia

"Jacob Lake is a small unincorporated community on the Kaibab Plateau in Coconino County, Arizona, United States, at the junction of U.S. Route 89A and State Route 67. Named after the Mormon explorer Jacob Hamblin, the town is known as the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon" because it is the starting point of Route 67, the only paved road leading to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon some 44 miles to the south. The town itself consists of the Jacob Lake Inn which maintains motel rooms and cabins, a restaurant, lunch counter, gift shop, bakery, and general store; a gas station/garage; campground; and a visitors center run by the U.S. Forest Service. In the summer months, there is also a nearby center for horse rides.

US President Theodore Roosevelt frequented the area of Jacob Lake on his trips to the Kaibab to hunt mountain lion and visit the Grand Canyon. It was also one of the haunts of the colorful Uncle Jim Owens, who reputedly rode with Jesse James and acted as a game warden on the Kaibab. His real life adventures provided fodder for the western writer Zane Grey and he was featured in the beloved children’s book Brighty of the Grand Canyon.

Jacob Lake Inn was founded in 1923 by Harold I. Bowman and his wife Effie Nina Nixon to facilitate tourists attempting to reach the Grand Canyon. The ancestors of both of these had been early converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (" LDS ") and had taken important roles in the settlement and exploration of southern Utah and northern Arizona. Jacob Getlar Smith: Snow Shovellers, 1934

Many artists went out into the cold to find subjects after the PWAP began in December 1933. Jacob Getlar Smith found men hired by the government’s new work relief program, the Civil Works Administration, to shovel snow from the streets and park paths of New York. Some of the snow shovellers sport crisp fedoras and warm overcoats while others wear battered caps and ragged coats; some have practical boots while others wear shoes more suited to office work. Men used to physical labor stride along vigorously; those accustomed to sitting behind desks walk more slowly, bowed with weariness after a morning spent clearing snow. Black and white, poor and middle class—all had lost their jobs to the Great Depression. Smith showed them gathered into the ranks of the New Deal social programs that offered them all the means to get through the winter. A boy pulling a sled walks alongside the men, a reminder of the families who looked to these men for their support.
