Cardiac II Black Heart Monitor Watch

Cardiac II Black Heart Monitor Watch

German multinational company Puma and its watch line Puma Time both strongly adhere to the values, aesthetic and functionality surrounding timepieces made for an active lifestyle. Chilean soccer star Alexis Sanchez embodies similar ideals in his dedication to his profession. When Sanchez was spotted with the Cardiac II Watch, the athlete not only made a fashion statement but emphasized his commitment to a physically active way of living.

As a forward for the Chilean national team as well as FC Barcelona, Sanchez exhibits a superb talent for dribbling, terrific speed, and strength uncharacteristic of a fast winger. A career begun at age 15, Sanchez rose quickly through regional, national, and eventually international ranks. He is acclaimed for becoming the youngest footballer to play for the national team during his first international match in 2006 and receiving the title of champion from the Chilean and Argentina leagues two years later.

The Cardiac II stays true to its name in both form and function, as it not only displays time similar to that of a heart monitor but actually acts as a heart monitor with the help of an ECG chest strap. This wireless strap relays the wearer’s heart rate to the watch, and LED indicators make sure that one stays within their target heart rate zone. Equipped with a chronograph, count-down stopwatch, zone alarm, and a 99 lap counter, the design of the watch even resembles that of medical instruments. After a run or swim (the model is water resistant to 50 meters) with the Cardiac II, the watch will calculate how many calories one has burned. At 40 mm, the unisex model’s polyurethane strap flexibly fits around the wrist and is available in four colors: white, red, yellow, and black. The Cardiac II sells for $ 100 and comes with a two year warranty.

Puma SE was founded in 1924 as a sportswear company. Famously known for their footwear, Puma has sponsored many soccer players and even Jamaican track record-setter Usain Bolt. Puma produces many versatile and practical watches that can be enjoyed by a wide audience, from professional athletes to the casual fitness guru. Other innovative products of the Puma Time line include the Puma Calculus, a watch with a touch-screen calculator on the watch face, and the Puma Cell, a digital cuff rubber watch that supports eco-friendliness while lending a unique look to one’s wrist.

Oris is a century old Swiss watch company with a bit less notoriety than other major brands. Its extensive history as a watch-maker, however, has proven that there are many reasons to wear an Oris watch.

Firstly, some of the biggest names in Hollywood have been wearing Oris watches over the years. In 2006, Oris was on the wrists of the cast of The Sopranos throughout the season.

In 2002, Meg Ryan wore an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date watch for much of the hit movie, Kate and Leopold; and the year before, in Jurassic Park 3, Sam Neill wore an Oris Big Crown BC3. Oris watches can also be seen in the hit movies Random Hearts, and A Time to Kill.

Beyond Hollywood, Oris has made and impact in aviation and diving. Oris is active in supporting new aviation exploits by sponsoring and being inspired by Formula One.

In 2008, Oris was the official partner of the AT&T Williams Formula One team. Oris also partnered with a slew of aviation ambassadors, including Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajim.

In diving Oris has made a partnership with Guinness Book of World Records free diver Carlos Coste in 2006. Each watch in the collection comes with Carlos Coste’s seal of approval.

Lastly, Oris is a cultural contributor. Oris has had a strong emotional connection with jazz ever since it sponsored the 1996 London Jazz Festival. Oris tributes some of the biggest names in jazz such as Frank Sinatra, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong.

Oris also has a limited edition watch under the namesake of the legendary Bob Dylan. Clearly it’s a brand worth trying!

The Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève is the Swiss watch industry’s most important award competition. The Mikrotimer’s victory marks the 7th time in 10 years that TAG Heuer has been singled out by the Geneva jury for its engineering and design prowess. It has won in the Sports category twice: in 2006 for the TAG Heuer CARRERA Calibre 360 Rose Gold Limited Edition; and in 2008 for the TAG Heuer Grand CARRERA Calibre 36 RS Caliper Concept Chronograph. The Mikrotimer Flying 1000 ― the world’s fastest ever mechanical chronograph ― has been voted the “2011 Swiss Watch of the Year” in the Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève’s prestigious “Sport” category. Shaun White American Way Cover

Shaun White, professional snowboarder, on the cover of American Way magazine wearing Charriol Force watch.

Shaun White—gold medal Olympian that is generally believed to be the first and last name in competitive snowboarding—is currently featured on the cover of the January 1st edition of American Way magazine wearing a Charriol Force watch. American Way magazine is the in-flight magazine for American Airlines and American Eagle Airlines.

At first glance, snowboarding’s rebellious counter-cultural style wouldn’t seem to jibe with the elegance of the Charriol brand. Charriol watches have a grace and sophistication that bespeak the cultivated image of the brand’s founder, Philippe Charriol. However, Charriol believes luxury and sportiness can coexist. “I would like to be looked at as creative, energetic and sporty,” Charriol says. There is no better way to describe Shaun White, whose tricks and flourishes on the halfpipe won him gold medals galore at the Winter-X games and the Olympics, and there is no better way to describe the Charriol Force watch.

The Force, Charriol's silver chronograph

Charriol's Silver Force Chronograph

Charriol’s Force watch collection was first introduced in 2007. Large, vibrant and full of personality, the series has a unique aesthetic due to the fact that the oval dial is positioned horizontally. This assertively named piece comes in three sizes, running from the small 34mm to the whopping 51mm. It is a self winding quartz chronograph with the movement visible through the stainless steel case back. The bezel is affixed with sapphire blue screws symmetrically positioned on the case front. The watch face has either roman numeral or Arabic hour markers, and the dial comes in mother of pearl, brushed steel or micro-grooved black lacquer. The roman numeral editions come with black, white or camel colored karung snakeskin straps. The Arabic numeral versions come in bold vibrant colors and feature gem settings, with black, white, pink or shimmering plum karung snakeskin straps. Steel bracelets are available for the large and small versions.

Shaun White, aka “The Flying Tomato” and “Chairman of the Board,” has been a competitive snowboarder since the age of seven, when he was given a sponsorship from Burton, a snowboard manufacturer. With his supernatural skill and his flaming red mane, White quickly became the most recognizable figure in the sport—he has endorsement deals with Target, Stride Chewing Gum, Oakley and his own skateboard line: Shaun White Supply Co. His popularity has given the once gritty and outsider-ish sport of snowboarding an accessibility and a broad appeal without compromising the uniqueness of the culture, in much the same way Charriol’s Force watch speaks to a vast populace while still remaining an exquisite work of art and craftsmanship.
