As usual, click on the image for a larger version.

It’s time for something a little different. Firstly, this piece is something the ladies will enjoy: a well finished, 33mm hand-winding classical watch. Although 33mm used to be Patek Philippe‘s mens’ size, today it’s a little on the small side even for the fairer sex. Amongst contemporary watches, the only comparable piece would be the JLC Master Ultra Thin at 34mm, and perhaps a Patek repeater or two (but obviously they’re all in very different price categories!)

This Nomos, however, is eminently affordable, and is another one of those watches that delivers great bang for the buck: you get a semi-inhouse movement, beautiful dial and hands, and a nice case. The movement is a heavily modified ETA (formerly Peseaux) 7001, which now sports a three quarter plate, snail graining on all the wheels and a very nice ‘Glashutte stripe’ finish. The hands are polished deep blue batons which hover over the ethereal silver dial, itself having a warm luster and sheen.

At this point, you’re probably wondering if the watch itself is the ‘something different’: there’s one more surprise. These images were shot with Leica M rangefinder lenses – the 50/1.4 ASPH and 28/2.8 ASPH – with a combination of adapters, extension tubes and bodies. The second image was actually shot with an M9-P rangefinder body, Visoflex III adaptor and continuous LED lighting. The Visoflex III is an old accessory that Leica made from the 60s onwards to compete with the SLR onslaught; it allows SLR viewing on your M rangefinder. I’m very pleased with the tonal palette; expect to see more of this in the future. Combined with extension tubes on the Nikon D700 body, far greater than normal magnification (up to 3.5:1!) is possible – all of these images, including the closeups, are the full frame and not crops.

Enjoy! MT

Second hand. No blue paint here; everything blue you see on a Nomos is colored by heat treatment, the old fashioned way.

I checked out the Fendi website but can’t find a model that has the F forming a snowflake, most of them have the word “Fendi” written straight across below the 12 o’clock.

There is a reason AP is AP, and today that reason is the Royal Oak.  But, years before we saw that crazy expensive piece of steel hit the street, Audemars made some very serious complicated watches, though you rarely see them surface when compared to those from Patek Philippe and even Vacheron Constantin.  When they do, though, they make a splash.  For example, an oversized AP chronograph pulled down $ 386,000 at Christies last year.

At Antiquorum Geneva is this TRIPLE DATE, CHRONOGRAPH & MOON PHASE in yellow gold dating to 1942, a watch that is just a really cool and really rare piece from Audemars.  It is not a perpetual calendar, but the fact that it is this complicated and so early makes it really special.  Again, you just do not see these from AP.

Pre-sale estimates for this exceptional AP is $ 65,000-$ 90,000 and you can see more details right here.

BTW, wouldn’t you love to see AP come out with a watch like this today?

Bet you’ve never seen this before.

You’re looking at the new Vacheron Constantin Boutique Exclusive Historiques 1921 next to the very watch that inspired it, a piece built for an American collector in 1921 (though the original concept dates to 1919).  These original Vacheron drivers watches are incredibly rare, in fact this model with the crown in the 1 o’clock position was only made in 12 examples.  The first three pieces were sent to the Americas and the very first belonged to “Rev S. Parkes Cadman, a prominent clergyman, newspaper writer and pioneer Christian radio broadcaster of the 1920s and 1930s. He was an early advocate of ecumenism and an outspoken opponent of anti-Semitism and racial intolerance.”

The 12 pieces were delivered over ten years, with the last being sold in 1931.  The watch you see above happens to belong to Vacheron Constantin themselves, and when we saw it in the display case at their NY boutique as part of the American Heritage project, we just had to photograph it next to the modern day tribute.  These are two absolutely magnificent timepieces, and you can see just how true to form the new model is.

Click through for more photos of TWO Vacherons, one dubbed the 1921, the other actually from 1921.

Question by Locked Bunny

Just wondering. Everybody knows that Ted DiBiase will be the WWE Champion and the new Face of the WWE soon, but nearly everybody hates him, and those who like DiBiase love him as crazy! That’s like John Cena! The morrons of the IWC hate those 2 guys, but the REAL WWE Universe loves those guys. Both are not bad wrestlers at all! Ted DiBiase is quite possibly the best wrestler of all time! John Cena is a decent wrestler, and not as bad as people claim him out to be.

So, is it true?
