Earlier we took a close look at Bob Barth’s Submariner, a watch that will command top dollar ($ 150,000) due to its spectacular provenance. This past weekend, a different Submariner sold at an Antiquorum auction that also has a pretty interesting history, and it sold for nearly a quarter million dollars. The watch’s past owner was not a diver or movie star, rather it was Israel’s most powerful man in the 50′s and 60′s, Isser Harel. What’s more, the watch was estimated to sell between $ 20,000 and 30,000. So what led to the astronomic price it ended up selling for?

The Patek Philippe 2499 in pink gold – now a $ 2.75 million watch.Yesterday in Geneva, Christie’s watch department held its spring sale.  It made over $ 32 million dollars, with four inidividual lots bringing in over $ 2 million each.  The Breguet Resonance pocket watch that we showed you previously went for an amazing $ 4.68m, while the enamel Patek world timer that we showed you here went for over $ 2.9.  But, one watch we didn’t show you, a Patek Philippe 2499 in pink gold is the focus of this post, because it seems so simple, and yet it sold for over $ 2.7million.  So, what made this 2499 so special when compared to, say, your average, run of the mill 2499 like this, also in yesterday’s sale, that made only $ 314,000?  The devil is in the details, my friends.

image via monochrome.nlAlain Delon is a French actor – a very famous French actor.  Just last week, his collection of timepieces was auctioned off in Paris, and the 100 watches brought it over $ 590,000.

The watch that attracted most of the attention was an early AP Royal Oak that Delon actually wore in during the filming of several movies including  “Comme un boomerang” (1976) and “Ne reveillez pas un flic qui dort” (1988).  The final sale price of this early Royal Oak (which has a service dial, for the record) was € 68,750 Euro including buyer’s premium – considerably more than the 37,500 CHF paid for this A-Series last month.

” Let the buyer beware” as the saying goes. I bought on E-bay, lathe chisels, go took, they were thirty five dollars, I could have got the same thing in Walmart crafts for $ 9.95 tinker toys.
I bought plants from some of there suppliers, all were almost dead or drying up when they came, non lived.

Usually the postage is higher then the items sold, something amiss here ?

Your getting items they can’t sell anywhere else, sheenies and gypsies.

you don’t want to buy replica anything from a website. that kind of this you want to examine and make sure youre paying for what should be extremely close to the real thing. i understand they’re not gonna be exactly identical to the real thing but you wont know how different they are until you see them in person…. the infamous canal street is the way to go on this one honey…
