What is this watch? Honestly, nobody seems to know, but it is absolutely awesome looking.  When we were at TAG Heuer Headquarters a few weeks back, we spotted this curious vintage Autavia in a glass case within the company’s restoration department.  Something about it seemed strange.  The thing is, we know our vintage Autavias pretty well, especially the automatic guys, and this one just seemed different. So, we asked them to take the watch out for further inspection and photographs (seen here, of course).  When we returned to New York, we reached out to Heuer experts David Chalmers of Calibre 11 and Jeff Stein of On The Dash. 

Both David and Jeff knew of the watch, and they also knew that nobody had gotten to the bottom of this mystery yet.  They said that only two or three examples of the exotic dial Autavia has been seen in the last half decade or so, but neither could say much of its origins – was it a special commission, a limited edition, a prototype?  We simply don’t know.

What we do know is that this special racing dial Autavia, fitted with a Caliber 15 automatic (Caliber 15 is a paired down Caliber 11/12 that features running seconds instead of an hour counter) is one great looking watch, one that you rarely see in the flesh.  Hell, we had to travel to TAG’s headquarters in La Chaux de Fonds to see one!  We also know that there is surely an explanation behind this rarity, and someday, we hope to bring it to you.  Until then, enjoy the beauty that is the vintage Heuer Autavia with exotic dial and should you ever come across one of these for sale, you know where to reach us (right here!).

See these are things that I hear from IWC, that the PG era doesn’t allow them to bleed or curse anymore, but I ask you, does it really matter that much?

I just a read a question that said “Which one of the McMahon do you HATE” in it the questioner goes on to HATE Linda McMahon because she is the reason for the PG rating. What an asinine thing to say.

Jeff Hardy and Edge just a had a Ladder Match for the ages earlier this year. Also Taker and Edge HiaC was an exceptional match.

We want to be entertained not to be bored to death and the TV-14 rating also gives MUCH better storylines as the PG rating can’t give us crap without it offending someone and having it to get edited out.

Currently trying to teach my puppy to ring a bell hanging by the door, to alert us she needs to go out to potty. Only problem is she seems to be afraid of the bell. I am using a fog style bell (traditional) rather than a sleigh type bell. Which is a little louder. For those of you who have bell trained your puppies, is this typical at first? Will she just get passed it? What type of bell did you use? Surely, that shouldn’t matter, should it?

Dont get me wrong N.W.A., Ice T, Tupac and other early gangster rap pioneers actually had meaningfull lyrics speeking out on problems in the world, but this new (c)rap is terrible it all sounds the same and it has no meaning other than lets get 26 inch rims on my Benz and by Rolex’s and platinum teeth.

If I were you, I’d find a site that allows you to pay via Paypal – that way, if your item never shows up, you can claim the money back. Also be careful that the watches they’re selling are actually the ones in the picture – often they’ll just take a picture of the real thing, but sell you a very different counterfeit… additionally, there’s many “grades” of counterfeit – if you want one that’s really close to the real thing, look for “AAA+” grade.

….keep in mind, you get what you pay for. The counterfeit ones may LOOK like the real ones, but they’re still not the quality of the real ones… I just bought a knock-off Dior bag and it looks 100% like a real one, but part of the key/coin on the front fell off this afternoon! …there you go..!

Question by R: did Rolex oysters ever come fitted with leather straps as almost every vintage one seems to have one?
Almost all the so called vintage Rolex watches you see for sale are fitted with replacement leather straps but they seem wrong and out of character. Does anyone know if they really were fitted from new?
