No, your eyes do not deceive you. The same brand that brought you this is now showing, for the first time ever, an extra-thin watch! The announcement from Hublot came out today that they would be expanding their Classic Fusion line to include the extra-thin skeletons you see above.

The Classic Fusion Extra-Thin Skeleton will be available in a LE of 1000 pieces in titanium and 500 pieces in gold.  They are sized at 45mm and feature a brand new movement, the HUB1300 hand-wound, that is only 2.9mm thick, with a power reserve of 90 hours. The skeletonized movement has a sub-seconds at 7 o’clock and this wath, apparently, has hands that are designed with the original Hublots in mind.

No word on pricing but we do have lives pics below courtesy of Hublot Nation, so check em out.

These are the stories that bring you back to vintage watches.

A few years back, a member of the Military Watch Forum named KKMark purchased an old IWC Mark XI dating to 1952.  He was told by the dealer that the original owner of the watch was a seasoned RAF navigator and once even helped ferry the young King of Jordan and his Queen mother out of the country during a coup attempt.  KKMark didn’t think much of this, though he never forgot the name of the purported owner “Frank Jekyll”.

Then one day late last year, KKMark was reading an article about a great old military plane that had been destroyed by arson and saw that a man named “Frank Jekyll” had left a comment.  KKMark couldn’t believe it, and through the jeweller that sold him the IWC, he found out that Mr. Jekyll now lived in Montreal and evetnutally made contact with him.

KKMark and Mr. Jekyll met for lunch to see what could be shared.  It turns out, a lot.  The watch was indeed Mr. Jekyll’s and he shared with KKMark all the stories of years as a RAF navigator, which did include bring the Queen and heir apparent out of Jordan, ditching his plane in the Indian Ocean (the Mark XI was waterproof, btw), making several drops in the jungle as they fought the communists in Malaya, and being one of the first three foreigners to land in Sri Lanka after the nation declared independence (they had to take off for half an hour, circle the area, and then land in a new nation).

Mr. Jekyll also spoke about how military watches were “common as dirt” and the IWC’s and Rolexes that were issued to them were very often destroyed by anvil rather than returned, because nobody wanted to do the paperwork (watchnerd cringe!).

This is just a great story and a prime example of why vintage watches are so interesting – you just never know what one of them may lead you to.  For the full post from KKMark, click on over to the Military Watch Forum.

You want the best in modern watchmaking? You’re looking at it.  Tomorrow in Hong Kong, Christie’s will offer up three of the most interesting, provocative, and important examples of today’s horology all in one room.

They have an MB&F HM3 in white gold, an Urwerk 202 in a rare configuration of dark Blue PVD coated platinum (blue platinum, you fo’ real?) and finally, the rarest of them all, a Harry Winston Opus V.  The Opus V is heralded by many as one of the most important watches of the past decade, combining Maximillian Busser’s business sense as then head of Harry Winston Timepieces and the technical skills of the boys at Urwerk.

The Opus V helped pave the way for both MB&F and Urwerk to become the powerhouse independent brands that they are today, and it’s also what we imagine will be the only chance to own a watch with ties to both Mr. Busser and Mr. Baumgartner in the foreseeable future.  Only 45 Opus V’s were made in platinum and most are locked away in collectors’ safes.

The MB&F holds an estimate of $ 38,000-$ 51,000, the Urwerk is estimated at $ 72,000-$ 100,000, and the Harry Winston is at $ 124,000-$ 193,000.

Oh and by the way, there is also a De Bethune perpetual calendar in the sale.  Boom. Go Nuts.

I was thinking about buying a new phone, but not from my Cincinnati Bell store, which is my provider. Can I buy any unlocked phone and it worked just fine, or would I have to take it to them, and pay for it to be unlocked? I dont know much about the process. Thanks!
Thanks! What is the “GSM850/1900″ and how do I change it to Cincinnati Bell?

Best answer:

Answer by musicnmobile
Cincinnati Bell is a GSM provider so as long as you purchase an UNLOCKED GSM phone that is at least GSM850/1900, simply pop in your sim card and you are good to go for voice and SMS
Remember, if the phone is NOT Cincinnati Bell branded, you will have to change the GPRS/WAP settings to the Cincinnati Bell settings if you want to use data
ADDITIONAL
When purchasing an unlocked GSM phone, if the phone is made for sale in North America, all newer GSM phones will be at least GSM850/1900 so no worrys
If you purchase a phone made for sale in Europe, you will have to check the specifications of the phone, it will list the GSM bands in the specs
