Rolex continues its tradition of pragmatic, intuitive complications with the incredible new Sky Dweller, which features a second time zone display as well as a fantastic new annual calendar. Home time is read off the 24-hour disc located on the dial. Local time is read using the centrally mounted hands. The date is read off the familiar date aperture at 3 o’clock. But where things get really interesting is the way in which the month is subtly but legibly displayed. Between the ring of 12 hour indices and the periphery of the dial is an outer ring of 12 small rectangular apertures representing the months, in line with each hour index. These boxes all remain empty except the one aperture representing the current month, which is filled with a contrast color indicator. The aperture beside the index for 1 o’clock therefore indicates the month of January while the window beside the 11 o’clock index represents November and so forth. While we’ve seen displays similar to this that use the hour indices to number off the month indications — such as in Moser Perpetual Calendar watch designed by Andreas Strehler — the placement of the month aperture directly beside the 12 hour indices creates an even higher level of legibility as opposed to the centrally mounted hand found in the Moser watch. But the real genius of the Sky Dweller becomes apparent when you realize the amazingly intuitive way the various indications are adjusted. By unscrewing the crown and pulling it out, you release

Question by : How is it not trademark infringement to copy Rolex’s style with the Invicta watch?
I saw what appeared to be a Rolex Submariner on someone’s wrist, which was when I told them they had a nice watch. He said thanks and smiled as he shows me it’s actually an Invicta but the design was almost identical. How is it legal to just copy someone’s design but just slap your logo on it?

Best answer:

Answer by Craig C
Rolex has trademarked the name “Submariner” but not the overall design. If you look close at the two watches side by side, you will notice minor differences between them, beyond the quality, so the Invicta is not an “exact” copy.

rolex price Question&Answer:
Question by Deevaw: Proving a Rolex’s legitimacy?
I know this is a legitimate Rolex. Was with my father when he bought it for himself. He doesn’t like it anymore and give it to me a few months ago as a gift. I don’t have any of the papers and I’m not sure if he does either. Will any jewelry shops prove its legitimacy? I know it would improve the value/be easier to sell if I could get it some sort of certificate for it. Also, what would be a decent price for it? He paid $ 5000 at the time and I believe this was about 5 years ago.

A jewelry store can help if they are a Rolex dealer. Such a service is not free. You might want to check some stuff before you take it for an apraisal.

Also there are web sites that offer suggestions. The only problem with the sites is they are pretty much clueless. I know this because I have a real Rolex and a fake that cost about $ 300. The fake is so good that it passes all the tests given on the sites. The fake came with a cheap box, but no papers. My real Rolex came with a box, and a lot of paperwork.

Paperwrok will add to the value of the watch.

I discovered that replicas can come in all levels of quality. Cheap ones can be had for $ 50. Good ones can cost $ 1200.

Just for fun, I did a side by side comparison between the real and fake watches. I discovered the following:

1. My replica will stop running if placed near a strong magnet. My real Rolex will not stop. I have noted that even the band of my real Rolex not will react to a magnet at all. I am sure all replicas will have at least some parts that are attracted to a magnet.
2. My replica will make a slight scraping sound when I shake it side to side. The winding weight inside it can be felt moving. On the real Rolex the movement of the weight is undetectable.
3. The bezel on a replica makes a distinct click sound when turned. The Rolex bezel moves smoothly, in very small steps, with hardly a sound.
4. If I take my Replica and set it on a table it will keep time for about 20 hours before it stops. My real rolex will keep time for about two days.

Rolex Air King Question&Answer:
Question by Rob B: Why do Rolex’s clink/ting?
I just bought a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King, when i move my wrist it tings or clinks. It is something mechanical inside the face. I am assuming it is the watch winding itself, can anybody verify this?
