I have four old watches: a Rolex from the 20s, Rado from the 30s, Bulova from the 40's or 50's and Caravelle mens watch from the 50s. I would have sold them locally because the 2 jewelry store owners told me there that they are genuine BUT could not sell them here since it's a small midwest town I live in. They both said they would take in a lot of money on the coasts since they are worn for social status. I wonder how much they are worth? How would I go about selling them? And where?

Best place to get a good idea of how much they are worth would be to check eBay. There aren't many places other than eBay where you can sell the Bulova or Caravelle since most jewelers that do carry vintage watches would probably not specialize in these brands. Depending on their condition, the Rolex or Rado may be something a vintage dealer would stock. Still, eBay may also be your best option for selling these quickly. If the Rolex is in nice shape and runs well, it might be worth quite a lot and could be worth the effort of shopping it around. Otherwise, eBay will get you a better price than you're likely to get elsewhere.

I can't afford a $5,000 Rolex, but if I were to lease one, I would imagine that the payments would be pretty cheap, maybe less than $100 a month.

I have heard that people can lease watches similar to the way they lease cars. Has anybody ever done this and do you know of any companies that do it?

If you cant get a personal loan you can try www.luxurywatchconcierge.com. They will try and get you in touch with a jeweler that offers a lease program for high end watches like a Rolex.

I saw a Press Release for www.firstwatchleasing.com. They offer leases for high end watches like Rolex, Breguet, etc. up to 60 months. Good Luck! The Rolex is a great watch and makes you look all put together. You are gonna look great!

The majority of of your major jewelers (Reeds, Zales, Kay) have a layaway/lease program. Some only ask for a down payment while others will require a credit check. I would go in to one of them and talk to them. Good luck. Oh yeah as a suggestion, I would go with a silver Rolex, and see if your jeweler has interchangeable bands so you can wear it with anything.
