Relative tot he table, the marble has two orthogonal components of velocity. The radial velocity is V and the tangential is r w (I use w for omega). The total speed is the vector sum of the two:

S = sqrt(V^2 + (rw)^2)

The catch is that r is changing with time. Since you start at the center and roll outward, r = Vt

Now you have the speed of:

S = sqrt(V^2 + (Vtw)^2) = V sqrt(1 + (wt)^2)

The total time to rach the edge (for table radius R) is tmax = R/V

All that is left is to integrate the speed S over the time interval from 0 to tmax.

Integrating S gives: V(sqrt(1 + (wt)^2)*t/2 + ln(wt + sqrt(1 + (wt)^2))/2w). Since this evaluates to zero at time zero, just substitute t = R/V to get the total path length:

V(sqrt(1 + (wR/V)^2)*R/(2V) + ln(wR/V + sqrt(1 + (wR/V)^2))/2w)

To help check you math and such, for V = 2 m/sec, R = 0.3 m, w = 10 radians/sec the path length is 0.389893 m

can some one identify the social statuses of the following people?
lets assume there are the following 4 people in a place…
1.a man slouching,texting on phone,doesnt talk much only smiles.
2.a girl has an i-phone,listening to music(in headphones),eyes closed,doesnt even care whats happening around.
3.a man wearing a rolex,talking to a group of friends,well dressed,polite and soft spoken.
4.a man has a blackberry,talking to a group of friends,very loud and curses at times.

suppose you are in that room can you identify the social status and personality of each person?
with reasons…

1. the person isnt very sociable. shy/quiet, low self esteem/insecure. cares too much what people think. it would take a bit of effort for him to open up. he has a barrier around him because hes afraid of being vulnerable

2. i wouldnt say selfish, but shes in her own world. doesnt really care what people thinks about her. not exactly in the norm. could be acting this way because something is bothering her and the music is a keeps her mind off it.

3. complex person, enjoy the finer things life offers. acts accordingly. thinks before acting/making decisions.

4. can be very dramatic. likes drawing attention and makes a big deal out of small things, can be stubborn and unreasonable. acts without thinking

both are superficial displays, a much more appropriate way would be to spend time volunteering in a homeless shelter, or donating some of the wealth to a worthwile charity

I believe that people who are genuinely happy with their wealth don't feel the need to flaunt it.

But, if you are looking for a way to show OFF your wealth, then I think either those two things, or a zillion other expensive items can effectively convey that.

Why do you need material things to show you are wealthy? They aren't important to anyone except maybe yourself. Better to be a happy person. A little time and money spent on any charities that you really believe in.

Get a Bentley Phantom and all heads will turn in your immediate direction. And flash your rolex out the window while driving.

How about a big donation to a local charity? That should make you [and many others] much happier than a car or a watch

The porche would let people know you have money, or are in debt at least. Whereas the rolex could easily be a knock off or a fake.

What should I take to crosscountry day. I want to go shopping too

Wear: if you'll be out on the field tramping around, wear your wellies and easily-tucked jeans. The cross country course at the horse park is horrid, even if there hasn't been much rain. Dress for the weather, and bring a poncho or umbrella if there will be rain.

Bring: Money (the shopping stalls are impossible to say no to), a business card if you have one (you will make a LOT of contacts if combined training is your equine area-of-choice!), water bottle, sunblock, and don't forget a camera!

Have fun… the Rolex is a blast… I volunteered a couple years and was an outrider for xc… didn't have to catch any loose ones in my area, but had a blast. You'll meet plenty of people, so be sure you have your cell… there are some amazing business contacts to be made if you do ct. Or really, if you ride at all.
