Question by Lorne

I have an iPhone 3G it’s on a Rogers network (YUCK) it’s a Pre-Paid sim card and it works perfectly, but the service sucks. I want to switch to Bell, but I don’t want to be paying a fortune for an iPhone plan. I want to get a Pre-Paid sim card from Bell and jailbreak my iPhone 3G and use it with Bell. Is this possible?

My cell phone broke… so can i buy a phone like the black berry storm or something like that. then later on when my contract end bring it over to rogers and still use my phone from bell? I live in canada and i would appreciate a responce thanks!

Answer by Jules
It’s possible, however check to make sure if it’s sim-card compatible. Bell doesn’t use sim cards, and Roger’s does.

If it DOES work, and you can use a sim-card in it, then yes you could take it over to Roger’s with you. Keep in mind though that Roger’s doesn’t carry the Storm, and therefore the roger’s network might not recognize it. Any charges incurred that you would want to dispute with Roger’s as a result of using a non-roger’s device do not qualify you for any credits or adjustments, as well as no tech support if something goes wrong.

I found a BlackBerry Curve 8530, CDMA phone. I don’t know how i might be able to change it from Being registered with Bell, to making it my Rogers phone. It has no SIM card slot under the battery, rather it has a metal block covering the area where a SIM card would fit. Do not tell me to re-check for the SIM card, it clearly does NOT have one. Thanks for any help.
Do not tell me to do everything i can to return it. I am in a tight situation and i would rather just sell the thing.

Re-check for the SIM card slot. Nah, just kidding. Like you said, the 8530 is a CDMA phone (not GSM) so it would not be compatible with the Rogers network.

I am getting sick of all the crap I go through with Rogers and want to switch companies. I’ve heard Bell is just as bad.
Does anyone out there know of any other companies that are great with good prices. I need something where I can get my home phone, cell phone, internet and cable at the same place.

Answer by Bob B
if you live in the east rogers is still your best bet. If you have been with them for a while just call in *611 say you want to cancel your services, get them to transfer you to customer relations, explain why you are unhappy and watch the magic happen.

I found this BlackBerry Curve 8530 with no line, but it is a CDMA phone. How can i transfer it from being a Bell phone, to my current Rogers plan? The phone does not have any place for a SIM card to fit, and someone told me that that is how CDMA phones are. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
Don’t ask me to do everything i can to return it. I’m in a tight spot and I’d rather sell the thing.

Bell is pissing me right off. I’m switching, I’m just not sure how to go about it. The less Bell has to do with my switch the better.

Do i need to give a certain amount of days notice?

Best answer:

Answer by Wendell
You do not have to give any notice to Bell of you intention to switch. You just call Rogers, you’ll need your bell account number and your postal code on your last bell bill. But if Bell is like the my former telephone provider (SaskTel) they will take about ten days to release the number to Rogers.
