To celebrate their 13th consecutive year of partnership, watchmaker Chopard and musician Elton John have released collections of watches to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The watches in this collection were specifically designed by Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele and Elton John to reflect the singer’s extravagant personality.

The watches are all limited edition self-winding chronograph movements. Each watch contains a 42-hour power reserve, a 30-minute counter, and a 12 counter. The most recent editions come in 18k rose gold and offer a setting in diamonds.

 

The Chopard Diary online boasts the watches as, “Featuring black, brown or pink alligator leather straps, the Elton John Watch Collection models boast a myriad of the precious gems of which Sir Elton John himself is so famously fond. Playful diamonds appear either alone or harmoniously combined with sapphires, rubies and emeralds, or even colorful yellow, pink or black diamonds.”

Other watches from the collection offer glamorous features such as an 18k white gold case, water resistance up to 100 meters, and crown and pushers in 18-carat white gold. Each case is also made from a glare-resistant sapphire crystal, while the back cases are engraved with Elton John’s signature.

To further celebrate the partnership with Chopard watches, Elton John hosted the annual White Tie & Tiara Ball, in order to raise funding and awareness for his AIDS foundation. The partnership with Elton John and Chopard is the product of the firm friendship between the signer and President of Chopad, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele. When the two met at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000, they realized their mutual love for fashion as well as the powerful desire to fight AIDS. This gave rise to the unique watch collections over the years dedicated to Elton John’s AIDS Foundation. Elton John also supports the fight against AIDS in his annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars Viewing Party he holds after the awards show.

Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele commented, “The new chronograph which we have created together truly is The Elton watch – a watch that reflects both his personality and his generosity.  Elton is a connoisseur and collector of watches and jewelry…I hope the new Elton John designed watch collection will appeal to others as much as it does to him. Each of the limited numbered Elton John Chopard collections have been met with large success ever since the partnership launched. The timepieces are well known among watch circles as trendy and luxurious based on the large diameters, precious stones, and flashy combinations.

Jaeger-LeCoultre will continue its partnership and officiate as timekeeper for Global Champions Tour’s impressive seventh season. The Global Champions Tour (GCT) is the world’s international equestrian jumping competition founded by GCT’s president Jan Tops, an Olympic gold medalist, in 2006. The tour’s purpose is to bring together the top 40 riders competing in a series of shows producing the best in show jumping.

Global Champions Tour announced its official calendar with legs of the tour taking place in:

  • Doha, April 5-7
  • Valencia, May 4-6
  • Hamburg, May 16-20
  • Wiesbaden, May 25-28

This international event will open in Doha, capital of Qatar, to be held at Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club for a second year. Doha an evolving nation has begun drawing attention for its cultural and sporting events, tax free designer goods, fine dining and water sports, all which speaks to Quatar’s committed stand to the development of sports both locally and internationally.

Winner of GCT 2011 event was Australian Edwina Tops-Alexander (and horse Cevo Itot du Chateau) whom took the GCT Title purse of 300,000 euro cheque and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock which was showcased in a GCT personalized case.

France’s Roger-Yves Bost (and horse Ideal de la Loge) won both first class at Doha and final class at Grand Prix. Bost took the Grand Prix class for fastest unbelievable jump-off, purse of 400,000 euros and received an engraved Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch.

The GCT event epitomizes what show jumping is all about, the best of the best, the relationship of skill and ability that exists between rider and horse best exhibited in show jumping. How fitting that Jaeger-LeCoultre would continue its partnership with GCT to time honor its rich culture of sportsmanship. It is this same spirit of performance that exemplifies the painstaking efforts Jaeger-LeCoultre takes in the development and production of its handmade timepieces.

Jaeger-LeCoultre commitment to detail will again be exhibited in the presentation of its prestigious Atmos clock, nicknamed “the Clock of Presidents,” to the winner of the GCT 2012 series. Jaeger-LeCoultre will also present a timepiece to winners of the Grand Prix, the final leg of the competition to be held in Abu Dhabi.

Miami HEAT fans have a new home in the AmericanAirlines Arena’s Hublot VIP Lobby. The two household names have an exclusive partnership: Not only is Hublot the official watch of the Miami HEAT, but team superstar Dwyane Wade is Hublot’s most recently initiated ambassador.

Located in Miami, FL, the  AmericanAirlines Arena is the house of the renowned HEAT. In the summer of 2011, the arena underwent renovation to build Hublot’s VIP lobby. In honor of the Swiss luxury watch company’s first team sponsorship in the United States, there is a new entrance adorned with Hublot decor. Sophisticated display cases containing select Hublot pieces, a large LCD video wall, and a swanky receptionist desk top off the VIP experience for devoted fans.

Talks of the HEAT-Hublot alliance began in the last months of 2010, culminating in an agreement for a multi-year partnership just a few months later. A charity event in January of 2011, sponsored by the HEAT and supported by Hublot, brought the powerhouses of Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver and the HEAT’s managing member Micky Arison together. The men and their wives bonded over their love for sports and charity, establishing a connection between the HEAT and Hublot. “This collaboration with the Miami HEAT and its foundation struck Hublot as completely logical. Since, after all, sharing a passion for time also means making this time precious,” Biver later said.

On April 14 of last year, the Miami HEAT officially announced the partnership, designating Hublot as the mandated timekeeper for the team. Hublot has pledged to help the Miami HEAT raise at least $ 750,000 for charity throughout a period of three years, starting off by selling eight white Hublot watches during last year’s playoffs to benefit the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund.

In February 2011, Dwyane Wade entered the ranks of Hublot representatives, an elite circle containing only the best of the best in their respective fields: Jet Li of not only martial arts but also film, Facundo Pieres of polo, Dario Cologna, Maria Riesch and Bode Miller of skiiing, Ayrton Senna of Formula 1 auto racing, and Diego Maradona of Manchester United. Hublot has several collaborations with other professional sports and their alliance with the HEAT signified their entrance into the world of basketball. “Teaming up with the Miami HEAT is an honor, and in particular our agreement with Dwyane Wade, forms a perfect extension,” Biver said.

Seiko Watches introduced a limited edition Sportura Chronograph to celebrate their three-year partnership with internationally successful Futbol Club Barcelona who visited Seiko in Tokyo following their FIFA Club Cup win.

On Dec. 18, 2011, Seiko partners Futbol Club Barcelona won the FIFA Club World Cup in Yokohama, Japan, beating out Brazilian Santos Futebol Clube to become world champions for the second time since 2009. The powerful Catalonian football club is among the most successful in the world, becoming the first team to win six out of six competitions in 2009. Supporter owned and operated, Barcelona’s motto “Més que un club” (“More than a club”) exemplifies their commitment to excellence and community, making them an ideal partner for Seiko Watches. FC Barcelona began its relationship with Japanese fine watch designer Seiko in March 2011. During their stay in Japan, FC Barcelona visited the new Seiko Salon at the Wako store in the Ginza district of Tokyo. FC Barcelona President Sandro Rosell presented Hattori with a Barcelona jersey with his name on it as a symbol of the strength of the two companies’ partnership. In the creative spirit of Seiko Watches, 11 FC Barcelona players helped design a unique wall clock. Each player signed his name next to his respective number on the clock to create a one-of-a-kind timepiece using the best elements of Seiko design and technology. The clock can be seen on display at the Seiko Museum Ginza Exhibition in Tokyo.

FCB’s December visit to Tokyo followed on the heels of Seiko’s visit to Barcelona in September 2011, their first meeting with the team since becoming the champion Club’s official timekeeper in March. Vice President of Seiko Watch Corporation Mr. Takahashi presented the players and coaches of the FC Barcelona first team with limited edition Sportura FC Barcelona Chronograph watches. The new chronographs feature Seiko’s trademark quality craftsmanship and the Barcelona team crest and colors. Tag Heuer. It’s one of the world’s most recognized luxury watch brands. Many famous faces have served as celebrity ambassadors for this iconic brand. Yet, one of these ambassadors, Leonardo DiCaprio, has taken a different approach to his relationship with the company. DiCaprio, a dedicated environmentalist, has shared this commitment with Tag Heuer and together the two have developed watches that will help the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Green Cross International.

 

Tag Heuer traces its roots back to 1860. Edouard Heuer founded The Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG in Switzerland. The company has been making timepieces ever since. Current Tag Heuer collections include Formula One, Aquaracer, Link, Carrera, Monaco, and Grand Carrera. The brand has served as the official timekeeper of three Summer Olympic games, the Skiing World Championships, and the Formula One World Championships.

 

Leonardo DiCaprio has had a long career as an actor, starting out in commercials and television as a teenager and later branching out into film work. Nominated for eight Golden Globe Awards, including winning once for his work in “The Aviator”, DiCaprio has appeared in successful films such as “Titanic”, “Catch Me if You Can”, “Gangs of New York”, and “Inception”. In addition to his work in the film industry, DiCaprio is a committed environmentalist. Some of DiCaprio’s commitments to the environment include driving a hybrid car and installing solar panels on his home. He has also donated money to environmental causes, including relief for Haiti and the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Tag Heuer continues to find ways to be sustainable and care for the environment. With the partnership with DiCaprio, the brand continues to found ways to continue it’s environmental commitments.
