The Sunday before SIHH kicked off, we paid a visit to the just opened M.A.D. Gallery, a new concept store owned and curated by MB&F.  The shop is unlike any other in the world, and if you make to Geneva, it would be a mistake not to visit.

Inside the gallery you will find a host of things that, while not produced by MB&F, are very much in the same vein as their machines, both horological and legacy.  Here are three of our favorite pieces from our visit, three pieces that don’t tell time.

Bell & Ross Question&Answer:

Question by bobo the hoho

I have a springer spanial named molly and im getting a puppy soon. Molly always scratches up the door and wall when she wants to go out so i got a leash and added bells to it and hung it from the doorknob. So do i just ring it every time i let her out and then she will just catch on? any tips? help me!

Best answer:

Answer by Nekkid Dog ©
Encourage her to ring it before taking her out.. take her paw or nose and have her ring it. Praise then take her outside.

if she is shy or startles easy, you may want to ring the bell at first until she gets accustomed to the new sound.

Eventually she will associate the bell with going out and will eventually use it to ask to go.

I think if anything could turn me into a Grinch, it would be this! How annoying and un-tasteful do you think it is?
I’m not opposing the fact that it’s for donation, just the way it’s carried out. If I want to donate I will, bell or not. I have no problem with it being for donation, but don’t ring a bell in my ear!

Our 7 month old has easily learned to ring the bell when he has to go potty, but now he’s using it to just go outside. I’m stuck on the discipline action here.

He’s basically using it for attention, but I’m telling you he doesn’t lack it at all. The last thing I want to do is punish him for ringing the bell, even though he just came back in.
He runs 4-5 days a week and I also am training him to retrieve, so it’s more about getting inside his head to let him know it’s not ok to go outside on his terms.
And yes, he’s always on some sort of lead when he’s outside, even for bathroom and training.

he loves being outside! maybe take him out more often and play with him out there instead of just taking him out to use the bathroom. Dogs need exercise too.

Question by Bree

I have two dogs. A Boston terrier (Ike 3) and a toy rat terrier(Owen 6 mts). They are currently kept inside while we are gone but they both have such bad seperation anxiety that they pull up the carpet by the doors trying to get to us. I hate to leave them outside ( we live in FL) but our apartment has an overhang where there is shade, they would be kept inside of a lange enclosed patio with a fence, and they have a small pool that they only seem to lay in when we are outside with them. My only problem is that i feel like I am neglecting them by putting them out there in the heat. I want to know if anyone has any more suggestions on how to make it more comfortable for them. i’m just a worried Mommy i guess. Please let me know. Thanks!
just an addition: i would crate them but they bark like crazy and my apt is right under the MODEL. haha so the people from the apt complex are always upstairs and we have gotten in trouble from their noise before when they were crated. thanks for your responses!
Ok ill put myself in their shoes.. i did yesterday.. i went outside for 6 hours and laid around in a pool and I had water and food and shade at my use too! haha i think they have it pretty good out there. i just wanted to make sure that i wasnt being mean. i guess hwne i think about it like that then they are kinda living the high life! LoL

Have you tried crating them when you are gone? Florida summers are rough on many dogs. In a crate they would not be able to tear up the carpets but would be cool inside.

Bell & Ross Question&Answer:

Question by Sean

May cat goes indoors and outdoors (and yes, I know the dangers of letting your kitty outdoors, but we don’t live in an urban area). She has a bell collar because I feel I need to do something to protect the critters, but sometimes it’s annoying as hell and, to be totally honest, I don’t want to go through the process of putting it on her every time she prances outside. So does it really make a difference?

Best answer:

Answer by sub0k
Not really, the cat will adapt her walk in such a way as to stop the bell from making noise when hunting. I have seen it happen, usually after about 2 weeks,

Question by La Vie Boheme: How do I teach my dog to ring a bell when she needs to go outside?
I have a Brittney at home, who is not a normal Brittney. She is a rescue and is not one of those dogs that won’t sit still. She is the most laid back, and smartest Brittney that anyone has ever seen. (The rescue group said so their self) She learned to shake, roalover, and lowcrawl all at once and in a matter of about an hour. I was wondering if anyone could give me an indepth guide of how to train her to ring a bell when she has to go potty. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Sassy B
Everytime she sits at the door or you take her out ring a bell. She should soon catch on to the bell meaning to go outside.

Question by krystal: Has anyone tried training their dog to use a bell to go outside?
I have a 4-5 month old puppy who will go to the door when she has to go to the bathroom, but if you are not right there to let her out she will just go on the floor. I thought about putting a bell at the door for her to hit when she wants to go outside. Has anyone done this before? If so, do you have any tips? This puppy seems very eager to please so I dont think it will be hard to train her to do it, just wanted some input/tips.

Best answer:

Answer by Coalminers Girlfriend
Well I have never tried this but I have been thinking about it, I’m training my Dal puppy to go to the door when he wants out so I thought about using a bell so that if I’m not close I will know what he wants.
