Nobody does really complex tourbillons better than Greubel Forsey.  And when you buy one of Steven and Robert’s creations, you want people to know that you have something really special on your wrist – especially when you’re taking it to the local YMCA for a dip in the public pool.

At the very pinnacle of Greubel Forsey’s lineup is a series of watches known as the “Quadruple Tourbillons,” which, you certainly won’t be surprised to hear each hold four tourbillons.  The line began with the standard quadruple tourbillon, which is explained expertly by our friends at Monochrome here.  Then, last year at the SIHH 2011, Stephen Forsey himself took the time to explain to us the next quadruple tourbillon called the Invention Piece 2, which was the culmination of SIX completely new concepts in tourbillon timekeeping (view our video of that here).

This year at the SIHH, Greubel Forsey revealed another double double-tourbillon watch called the Quadruple Tourbillon Secret.  What this watch is is indeed every bit a GF quadruple tourbillon, but the dance of the movement, which is typically placed front and center on the dial, is actually hidden away viewable only through the sapphire caseback.  The dial side does have indications for how the tourbillons are moving on the rear, but they are not viewable without taking the watch off your wrist.

Of course, the watch does clearly say “Quadruple Tourbillon” right on the dial, but few in this world would know enough to look that close on a watch to see what it says.  The watch is pretty thick at over 16mm, but its dimensions are demure considering the 519 components and FOUR tourbillons that reside inside, with a diameter of 43.5mm.

This watch is indeed a paradox upon itself.  It is undoubtedly a very cool concept, and as technically brilliant as any of the GF pieces.  Only 16 pieces will be made in totaly, 8 in platinum and 8 in 5N red gold.  Price? A lot, but if you want the absolute best in tourbillon technology and don’t necessarily want to show it off, this is the watch for you.  Click here fore more details and click through for live photos.

You won’t find the owner of a perpetual calendar any happier than you will today, February 29th.  You see, one of the coolest things about a true perpetual calendar is that it automatically knows and adjusts for leap years.  Thing is, they don’t come around too often, so every February 29th, people that are lucky enough to own a perpetual calendar go a little nutty and start showing complete strangers their watches on the streets.

So, on this leap day, we though we’d show you a famous perpetual calendar that you should know about.  It is, of course, from Patek Philippe, and its reference is the 2497.  It is a traditional manually wound perpetual calendar and it was launched in 1951.  The 2497 was introduced alongside the 2438-1, which was the same watch with a waterproof case and though it was produced for over ten years, only 179 examples were made in total, of both references.

The 2497 is traditionally divided into two series, differentiated by their dials.  Series one is as above on Ben’s wrist with alternating dots and arabic numerals and feuille hands, while series two is as seen here with all applied hash markers and dauphine hands.

Estimates on 2497s are anywhere from $ 220,000-$ 350,000 these days, with the last one selling publicly for $ 314,500 in December of 2011 in NYC.

So, next time leap day comes around and your annoying friend with the perpetual calendar shows you his watch, tell him “if it’s not a Patek 2497, i’m not interested”.

Question by

I have a 98B009 Bulova watch. It was given to me by a friend recently. The thing that bugs me is on the back of the watch the serial code was different it read C976933. I had to manually look to find the watch on the Bulova site. Looks Identical to it but has a different serial code and it also says A9 water resist

Small parts of the gold(if its real gold) is fading away (gold plated i guess)

The main thing really is the serial code

So can you guys tell me if I have a fake or not? Because of its real I have $ 550 watch on my hands.

Question by luv_ofmusic

I would love to get some feedback on how you did it and how long it took the dog to figure it out. My dog knows to go to the door, but she can’t figure out that she needs to ring the bell. She is a 4 month old Goldendoodle. Thanks for any help.

Best answer:

Answer by Catherine F
Hang the bell from the doorknob to about nose height. Before taking her out, ring the bell each time. She’ll begin to associate ringing the bell with going outside.

good luck.
