Movado has landed the honor of designing, producing and marketing a new watch line for Ferrari S.p.A., the iconic sports car manufacturer and race team. The agreement is a multi-year, worldwide license that will give Ferrari and Scuderia Ferrari brand a new partner and new outlets for distribution.

Ferrari chose to end their relationship with their previous partner, Panerai, in the hopes that the Movado Group will reach a wider audience with their more affordable luxury watches. Ferrari intends for the Scuderia Ferrari watch line to be more accessible by the general public which Movado should be able to help accommodate. Movado will use their wholesale distribution outlets to market the watches globally, as well as Ferrari stores and the Ferrari online store. The watches will also peak at $ 2,000 which is a dramatic decrease from the prior watch line.

Chief Executive and Chairman, Efraim Grinberg, of Movado Group, Inc. announced that the “Ferrari Formula 1 cars and Ferrari Road cars will provide great inspiration” to their design group. The watch collection is expected to include captivating, recognizable designs combined with the high quality expertise and skill that is part of Movado’s reputation. Grinberg stated that Movado “looks forward to collaborating with them to design an innovation collection and to satisfy the requests of Ferrari enthusiasts” all around the globe.

Movado has a history of partnering with well-known brands to create elegant and stylish watches. Founded in 1881, the Swiss company has formed a solid reputation as one of the world’s leading watchmakers and has earned 200 international awards for their watch design and time technology. Brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, ESQ, Lacoste, Ebel and Hugo Boss have learned that a partnership with Movado Group is a sure and successful method of broadening their accessory line.

What should fans expect? The new watch line will, no doubt, be of expert craftsmanship and innovative technology with an elegant design and distinction. With the inspiration of cars that reek of speed, grace and beauty, the partnership of Movado and Ferrari is sure to produce outstanding timepieces that will have fans eagerly waiting the unveiling next year.

When should we expect to see the new Movado-Scuderia Ferrari watch line? It was announced that the collection will be ready for launch at the 2013 Annual Watch & Jewelry Fair which is held in Basel, Switzerland in March of every year. The wait is sure to keep watch aficionados counting the days.

Chris Benz wearing teal Movado BOLD

Chris Benz wearing teal Movado Bold at Fashion Night's Out

Chris Benz is an award-winning fashion designer featured in many magazines and online publications. Movado has created iconic Swiss luxury watches for the sophisticated timepiece lover for over 130 years. Thus, it was only natural that the two giants in their respective fields collaborated to unveil the limited edition Movado Bold watches by Chris Benz.

Educated at the renowned Parsons New School for Design, Benz’s career took off when he received CFDA’s Emerging Talent and Award Scholarship. He went on to become an official member of the CFDA years later after creating his own fashion line. He has made multiple appearances on television, partnered with eyewear companies, and his clothing designs are often featured in top fashion magazines such as Vogue, Glamour and Elle. His signature bold use of color ironically reflects the exact name of the collection he helped design for Movado.

Movado’s interpretation of Nathan Horwitt’s Museum Watch design acts as the face for the brand. Horwitt’s original watch was the first wristwatch showcased at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Movado reproduced the Museum design with a solitary golden dot on the face of the timepiece, symbolizing the position of the sun at noon and the hands as earth’s movement.

Benz reinterprets the Museum style in his own distinct flair for the Bold collection, producing five bright designs in limited editions: 150 of black watches, 100 each of magenta/white, camel/white, blue/mustard, and only 50 of the teal models, with each piece going at the price of $ 550. Each watch case is sized at 42 mm, water resistant to 30 meters, and operates by Swiss movement. The main attraction of these watches is the drip-dot dial, or Benz’s approach to the Museum dot. Lively color combinations  for the dot and the watch background literally ooze Benz’s edginess, accented by his signature tie-dye smoke print silk straps. K1 crystals and the TR90 stainless steel cases put a finishing touch on these painterly pieces.

Benz effortlessly combines self-expression with Movado’s timeless elegance in his latest additions to the Movado Artists’ Series, joining the ranks of famed luminaries such as Andy Warhol, Romero Britto, and Andy Scharf. “We could not be more thrilled with the final watch designs and Chris’s dynamic reinterpretation of the Museum dot,” CEO and Chairman of Movado Group Efraim Grinberg said.

Movado is a brand most famous for its elegant style and innovative watch designs. It is known for taking risks, supporting the arts and usually being rewarded for doing so. Movado’s notoriety is mostly permeated, however, by the celebrities that are loyal to the brand.

The extensive list of celebs who are spotted sporting Movado watches begins, most recently, with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush. He flaunted his BOLD chronograph Movado watch on the air this past May as a salute to the company’s success in watch-making.

The BOLD Collection, released in 2011, features a 42mm watch with a stainless steel case and an indigo blue sheen dial. It has a sophisticated black leather strap, and a built-in Swiss quartz movement.

Jayden Smith and Chris Benz were also spotted wearing Movado BOLD watches in this past year. The stylish teen sported his own BOLD watch at the Los Angeles premier of Justin Bieber’s, Never Say Never movie.

The always hilarious Joel McHale is also a known supporter of Movado. He wore the Movado Master, of Movado’s Master Collection, on his E! network show, The Soup, in July 2010. “The meticulously engineered and masterfully refined” Movado Master is both classy and avant-garde. Its porous strap gives it a comfortable feel, while its case design gives the watch an industrial look. It’s a fine piece of jewelry, and, of course, great for telling time.

Movado’s men’s watches are clearly a favorite among celebrities; however their women’s collections are equally praiseworthy. Award-winning actress Kerry Washington was spotted sporting two different Movado watches on separate occasions. She wore the diamond set Movado Fe Sta at the CDFA Fashion Awards, and the gorgeous Movado Bela at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Installation Luncheon.

The “fashionably slender” Movado Bela epitomizes feminine elegance. Its slim strap is made of shiny stainless steel, and its case is available with shimmering diamond accents. The bangle watch also features removable back links for a customized fit.

So if Movado can conquer masculine and feminine styles, who says they can’t do sporty?

They certainly have done so in their Series 800 Collection. This limited edition series was welcomed by Derek Jeter at a luncheon in NYC. Jeter’s watch, called the Derek Jeter Automatic Chronograph is a sporty steel quartz and automatic watch. It has luminescent details and a flashy appeal.

Movado has a diverse audience, and an even more diverse range of watch-types.

Question by Joe A

Does anyone know the best place to purchase a movado watch. I know there are alot of people on the internet selling fake movado watches. I just want to be sure before i shell out 1000 dollars on a watch that its real and its new.

Best answer:

Answer by misss.
Why don’t you try going to a movado outlet store? i know they exist because my dad actually goes to one. I guess it depends where you live- but most likely you’ll fine movado outlets at outlet malls/centers. For example, my family lives in Illinois, so we go to a place named Gurnee Mills- and there’s a Movado Outlet there. There’s other places around here too, but like I said- it all depends where you live. If there’s no places around your state/ home then you should wait until a jewelry store or a watch place has some on sale. If you want to buy one off the internet, make sure that they give you a valid certificate of authenticity and that you contact the seller before buying anything.

Men's museum classic

Movado Men's Museum Classic, symbolic of Movado's enduring union with fine art and artists.

On December 6, Movado watches and Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation hosted a special event at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in New York. The event provided Jeter’s youth leadership development program, “Jeter’s Leaders,” with the opportunity to appreciate first hand the magic and inspiration of modern dance via presentations from the Co-Director of Ailey Arts in Education Programs Nasha Thomas-Schmitt and Artistic Director Robert Battle. The theme of the presentations was the critical importance of arts in the development of culture and society, something Movado strives to emphasize through its sponsorships of numerous fine arts programs, and the enlistment of iconic ambassadors such as Wynton Marsalis, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Derek Jeter.

“Teaming up with Movado to provide the students with such an outstanding experience through exposure to arts and culture is a tremendous opportunity for us,” Jeter said. “We are excited that we can partner with such a world-class organization – one that supports our passion, our commitment to excellence and serves to enrich the educational experience of our students.” Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation initiates programs with the purpose of steering young people away from high risk behavior and towards healthy and productive endeavors.

The presentations were followed by original dance programs, after which the students were taken back stage to meet the dancers. “I’m very proud of Ailey’s legacy of inspiration and seeing our artistry enrich the development of high school students mentored by the Turn 2 Foundation, thanks to both Derek Jeter and Movado,” said Battle. “I know firsthand the impact an experience like this can have on young people.”

Derek Jeter

Movado’s Chief Marketing officer for The Movado Group Mary Leach agrees that the benefits of exposure to the fine arts at a young age is incalculable, and Movado is more than happy to be a catalyst for that endeavor. “We are thrilled to provide the students with the opportunity to learn more about the performing arts through the legendary Alvin Ailey Dance Company,” she said. “In the spirit of Movado’s continual commitment to support the cultural arts, Movado was proud to partner with Turn 2 in support the Foundation’s educational initiatives.”

In addition to manufacturing exceptional timepieces for more than a century, Movado has a proud tradition of supporting artistic programs around the nation, including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York City Ballet, Miami City Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet and Jazz at Lincoln Center, among others. Movado continues into the 21st century with a promise to continually recognize the achievements and the importance of the artistic community.

I would spend up to $ 1000 or a little more if nesscesary

Best answer:

Answer by BabeHart
Does she like expensive jewelry??? Does she wear a watch??? Personally, I wouldn’t find value in a $ 1K watch (the one I got for $ 18 tells time just fine, and is real cute) so it wouldn’t suit just any woman…you know her, so you should know what she likes…I’ve never heard of that brand, so can’t say if it’s a good brand or not (but IMO, no watch is worth that much)…

Movado is lower level luxury brand, it make both cheap and costly models, can buy some steel quartz Movado models $ 250 or so at Macy’s, brand also make gold complicated models (minute repeater, tourbillon, perpetual calendar), “1881″ line is gold basic or complicated, cost much more of steel quartz models of course, most complicated is minute repeater, it chime hour, quarter and minute when push sliding lever at case band, Movado make two minute repeaters few years ago, 18kt gold “Museum Watch” minute repeater cost $ 250,000, basic manual-wind dress watch show hours and minutes cost $ 12,500, is so costly so Cartier of same type, my cousin own $ 12,100 Cartier “Tank L.C.” and $ 12,300 Cartier “Santos Dumont”, both are manual-wind, show hours and minutes only, you can see Movado gold dress watches similar of price of Cartier, but Cartier not make $ 250 steel quartz watches, Movado have wider range of prices and types of Cartier or other luxury brands. EDIT: LiveLove only see “Museum Watch”, it have no numbers, just small circle at 12:00, is difficult tell time at such watch, that just one model however, Movado make many other watches have numbers, my cousin have Movado “1881″ dress watch have Roman numerals 1-XII at dial, he not like “Museum Watch”, he see many other Movados have numerals at dials, look at Macy’s, you see different models.
