Another hard-to-find theme song. From the “chase” scene in the movie Bloodsport with Jean Claude van Damme. Also never released commercially, I was lucky to buy a special limited cd from the artists producer. Many thanks to Michael Bishop who made this song.

With the economy’s head barely above water, it’s tough to make it in the high-end fashion industry these days. However, one man seems to be keeping his head well above the water: Michael Kors.

Michael Kors has truly transformed as a designer to meet the changing needs of his customers. Even though he is considered a part of the “high end” fashion industry, Kors keeps his product and prices ever changing to meet the needs of his clientele.

Michael Kors designs are flying off the shelves and, one of his most popular items, men’s and women’s watches are flying even faster. They are considered some of his more “affordable” accessories; his various types of chronograph watches.

A Michael Kors' Runway Watch.

In this year is the Michael Kors’ watch that everyone is dying to have. It is sleek and fine tuned, with flesh colored links and a smaller face. This particular watch can be seen on celebrities such as Ashley Benson and Dakota Fanning. Some of his other designs are various colors and sizes, some having actual numbers on the face while others having merely notches to indicate time. All in all, the Michael Kors watch screams high class and does not undermine fashion what so ever.

Also in this season, are Michael Kors’ Tortoise Shell watches. Whether the design lines the face, is actually behind the face, or on the band, these watches are flying off the ledge. Another one of Kors’ popular watches is the “Runway Watch” which comes in a variety of colors. These watches are monochromatic, or basically all one color. Not only are they interesting on the eye, but are a fashion steal at $ 250.00.

Also widely popular are Kors’ chronograph watches. One line in particular are rectangular in shape, with three chronographs on the inside of the face. They are also priced at $ 250.00.

Consumers want reasonably priced luxury. Most top-end brands don’t discount their merchandise: never having sales let alone clearance items. Kors just gets it. A huge success of the brand is due to the launch of MICHAEL, a Kors collection of lower-priced apparel and accessories like watches and fragrances. With this brand, middle class folk are able to afford high-class stuff. And that’s something nobody is going to turn down.

Whether it is clothing, fragrances, handbags, shoes, and accessories for the iPhone and iPod, Kors’ products are flying off the shelves. From what I can see, the designer has a winning retail method: and it all started with his watches.

Michael Kors is killing it. Long a familiar face in fashion as a judge on the popular reality show/ designing competition, Project Runway, Kors stock has taken off since last December. Literally. The eponymous company, run by CEO John Idol and CFO Lawrence Stoll (Kors is the Lead Designer), went public late last year and drew scores of headlines with its stunning debut. Since then, things seem to have only improved. Kors is a prime example of the current disconnect between a recession economy and a booming luxury sales business.

Kors, Idol, Stoll and Director Silas Chou rang the bell on the New York Stock Exchange on December 15 of last year. As of February 24, only a little over two months later, the stock was up by 52.33 percent – YTD. The numbers have been impressive and consistently outshone projections, making Kors something of a stock sweetheart and an investment much touted by Wall Street professionals.

Much of this success has been attributed to successful retailing of Kors wide variety of accessories, handbags and watches. In a telephone interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Corinna Freedman, told them that Kors watches, specifically, have become “a status symbol for a certain demographic.” Ostensibly, that would be the demographic that can afford them but, at $ 120 – $ 525, just about anyone able to save up a little money can afford a Kors ‘status symbol” to wear on their wrist.

For a good price, Kors has some very classy and accessible watches (as well as other accessories, handbags and shoes) on the market and this, no doubt, is part of the reason for the company’s success. Affordable classic luxury is unlikely to ever go out of style, particularly as financial woes tend to have absolutely no impact on the desire to look good.

As seems to be the prevailing story across luxury brands, the opening up of markets in Asia has also been a large part of burgeoning bottom lines. Kors has seen success in these markets and plans to open up approximately 100 new stores on the continent. Even in Europe, where austerity is causing public riots, the brand has managed to grow. Lately, it seems that Michael Kors can do no wrong. The public loves him, the stock market loves him, the consumers love him; he even has a new husband who loves him.

A certain air of sophistication and luxury has become synonymous with Michael Kors‘ fashionable watches and they’re insanely popular after the designer was anointed as one of Oprah’s Favorite Things. Ranging in the $ 250 to $ 500 price bracket, Kors watches aren’t exactly the cheapest things on the market. Considering the longevity of the watch, it’s wearability, and the materials used to create the watch, you can get the same sophistication at more suitable prices.

4 mk styles

Michael Kors watches range from $ 300 to $ 500–and it's only stainless steel

When people purchase a gold Michael Kors watch for over $ 400, they expect to get some carat of gold in that watch. Not so with Kors’ gold-tone watches, which have no gold content at all. All metal Kors watches are ion-plated stainless steel. To get rich, varying colors, many watch manufacturers use an advanced surface finishing process called ion-plating, which combines certain chemical gases to produce a particular color and increased durability and wear resistance. When colors of watches used to fade after a month or two, ion-plating allows certain fashionable colors up to two years of wearability before the watch even starts to fade. Most watches are made this way and many are backed by at least a two-year limited warranty that cover internal movement components of the watch.

The outward components include the face of the watch, known as the crystal, the bezel–or the glitz around the face–and the part that attaches the face to the watch bracelet is called the case. The bezel can be made of rhinestones and often absorbs most of the shock if you wear your watch while using your hands. Because the bezel is so susceptible to damage there is a $ 32 fee to replace it as well as the other outward components of the watch. The watch will have to be sent in, but don’t send it to Michael Kors as he is the designer, not the manufacturer for his watches. Michael Kors, and many other fashion and luxury watches, are manufactured at Metro Service Center in Dallas, Texas. Even if you are local to Dallas, you still must send your watch into Metro through the mail.

This warranty is the same for many watches, including Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and DKNY. Those brands are made in the exact same way, in similar style to Kors–but just for a lot less. DKNY styles top off at around $ 300 and Marc by Marc Jacobs has many styles around $ 250, although there definitely are more expensive styles to choose from. You can find even more brands and models that are less expensive although they’re made with the same materials and processes. Furthermore, your watch would be different from everyone else who is throwing their money to Michael Kors for the same look time and time again.

Michael Kors Golden Large Runway Double Glitz Watch

Michael Kors Golden Large Runway Double Glitz Watch

Spring’s flowers have bloomed and so have the trends for Michael Korswatches. This season, Michael Kors watches set in golden steel casings and tortoise acetate are officially in. Also known as the models that comprise the Golden collection and Tortoise and Horn collection, respectively, these sleek timepieces are exclusive to the classic American brand.

The Golden collection brings about a high-fashion sense to its wearers, exemplified by the Large Runway Double Glitz Watch. Every inch of golden perfection radiates with sophistication and glamour, with crystal insets on a rose gold bezel further accenting the gold dial. The chronograph displays a stopwatch and date function, and more crystal insets adorn the stainless steel watch strap. With a water resistance of 8 atm, this timepiece is a definite steal at the retail price of $ 325.

A great representative of the aesthetic feel of the Tortoise collection, the Mid-Size Tribeca Chronograph Watch also has elements of the Golden collection in its construction. The Tribeca has a similarly styled date window and golden stainless steel case, but the bezel differs in that it is composed of tortoise acetate and detailed with studs. The bracelet strap diameter extends 22 mm, with the case 43 mm across, and the entire piece resists water up to 10 atm. Lend a classy look to any outfit with the Tribeca, currently selling for $ 275.

The Mini-Size Tessa Three-Hand Watch is yet another effortless blend of the Golden and Tortoise essences with a unique shape of its own. Almost completely disguised as a bracelet, the Tessa’s rectangular case cheekily contains its golden face inside the constraints of the strap. The bracelet strap is made up of tortoise acetate enclosing links of gold stainless steel, providing a lightweight alternative to those who find conventional watch shapes a burden. At the price of $ 160, one may find this watch a lighter burden on one’s wallet as well.

The appropriately named Tortoise Show Stopper Glitz Watch stands in a league of its own, with a bracelet strap made completely from tortoise. This lends a rugged look and a deep contrast to the swanky rose gold bezel glittering with crystals. A dark brown ring encloses the mother of pearl face and three sub dials, and the date window and stopwatch give off the signature vibe of Michael Kors watches. Juxtaposing the fundamentals from the two collections so sharply results in a lasting impression, and at $ 275 the Show Stopper thus fulfills its duty.

Combine sporty attitude with stylish elegance and what do you get? A designer watch by Michael Kors! Michael Kors’ line-up for spring brings us designer chronograph watches that shout style and grace.

Launched in 1981, the Michael Kors brand has since become an international success. Originally established as a luxury sportswear company, Michael Kors, an award-winner designer, slowly expanded into global apparel, accessories (handbags, small leather goods, eyewear, jewelry and watches) and footwear. The brand’s focus was on ready-to-wear clothing, along with stylish accessories from the Michael Kors line-up. The Michael Kors collection is considered the brand’s height of luxury and has adorned many of his semi-annual runway shows. In 2004, the MICHAEL Michael Kors collection was introduced. This collection was designed with the younger demographic market in mind. The collection’s main focus was “accessible” luxury goods (accessories, footwear and apparel). At this point, timepieces were also introduced into the Michael Kors collection.

Michael Kors Watch

Michael Kors Mid-Size Tribeca Chronograph Watch, Golden/Tortoise

First on the list for the spring collection is the Michael Kors Mid-Size Tribeca Chronograph watch. This stylish timepiece comes in two different tones. The first is a golden/tortoise which boasts a golden stainless steel bracelet with a tortoise acetate inlay. It features a round bezel with brown chronograph detail and three golden time stops with accents. A small circular date window appears above the holder for the numeral six, while the numerals displayed are visible in white. The strap is a bracelet style with deployant buckle.

The twin to the Michael Kors Mid-Size Tribeca Chronograph comes in espresso/white horn. The watch is an espresso-colored stainless steel and white horn acetate which radiates a gorgeous tone. All the key features are identical to its twin.

The third watch in the spring collection is the Michael Kors Oversized Runway Chronograph watch which comes in an appealing bronze. It features a bronze oversized case with camera detailing. Its bronze-brushed chronograph dial with tonal and white accents creates a rich color that exudes style. The chronograph also features a stop watch function. A small square date window is positioned between the four and five numerals. The bracelet style strap comes with deployant buckle.

While all three chronographs are highly fashionable and stylish, they also portray key practical features. This design is what the Michael Kors brand is all about. A sense of sophistication and style combined with true quality and craftsmanship. Michael Kors seems to have achieved his goal. Timepieces that compliment your apparel with a sense of fashion and appeal.

This year’s women’s spring fashions will kick off in lively reds and soon taper off into greens, lilacs and lavenders. Spring selections from Michael Kors, Armani Exchange, Marc by Marc Jacobs and DKNY all point to rose gold tones, fuchsias, purples and reds, allowing you to keep up with the burst of color that’s about to spring soon.

With an intense focus on red and pink over the past holiday season, women’s watch fashions will won’t deviate from that palette for at least the first few weeks of spring. It seems that everyone is so ready to be free of heavy coats and extreme temperatures and I’m predicting a huge splash of more vibrant reds and bright pinks as we head toward spring.

Once settled into the warmer and more humid parts of spring, I anticipate an influx of mint julep greens, lilacs and lavenders. Another hit from Christmas was anything rose-gold toned, which I predict will carry on into spring. For those seeking something a little different, each brand presents its own blazon standalone that’s sure to garner attention.

Michael Kors Madison Safari

Michael Kors Madison Safari

Michael Kors does not disappoint, even on safari. New selections from Kors includes the multi-colored Blair series with a mini rose gold-tone watch with a sparkly bezel. The animal print-inspired Madison collection is sure to be a hit this spring, offering materials like faux horn, resin, and stainless steel.

A wild array of poignant fuchsias and blues define the Marc by Marc Jacobs spring selections. Pairing yellow gold-tones with amethyst, and saucy reds and pairing vibrant blues with stainless steel cases, this spring spells comfort with soft silicone and full grain leather straps. Marc by Marc Jacobs offers comfort, style and name brand to accommodate all your spring fashions.

Armani Exchange offers flashier selections that go well with work and after hours, including a denim-blue resin watch with rose gold-tone indexes and accents. True to Armani style, the brand deviates little from metallic hues, wrapping up the season’s fashions for women into rose gold tones, marbled resin, titanium silvers and metallic denim.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring Collection

Marc by Marc full of gold-tones, reds and purples.

DKNY mixes hard and soft with their selections this season with soft pink, plum and rose gold tones. With crystal encrusted dials, and glitzy top rings paired with soft full-grain leather, DKNY offers more delicate selections for the spring.

With a wide palette of bright reds, pinks, purples and blues offered by Armani Exchange, Michael Kors, DKNY and Marc by Marc Jacobs, spring will make an easy transition into summer and have plenty of hot styles and colors to match your whole wardrobe.

With uncertainty over the world’s economy over the past few years, it can, at times, be difficult to be in luxury retail. Many consumers have found themselves needing to cut expenses and one of the first areas to take a hit is in luxury goods. Michael Kors is one company that understands this. The brand has responded by accommodating the changing needs of customers in an economy that has not been particularly strong.

Michael Kors launched his eponymous womenswear line in 1981. His success at such stores as Bloomingdale’s and Bergdorf Goodman lead to Kors being named, in 1997, the creative designer and first women’s ready-to-wear designer for French Fashion House Celine. Kor’s menswear line was launched in 2002, and 2003 he left Celine to focus his energy on his own brand. Kor’s company includes MICHAEL Michael Kors and KORS Michael Kors lines in addition to the brand’s high-end Michael Kors Runway Collection.

Michael Kors

Michael Kors, founder of the eponymous fashion brand.

The Michael Kors brand, a newly public retail stock, has been sensitive to the needs of consumers of all economic stripes. The MICAHEL Michael Kors line is a lower-priced collection that has seen a recent surge in sales. The company has found a way to appeal to customers who want a high-end luxury brand that is still affordable. With Michael Kors offering lines that range from affordable mass produced items to high-end luxury pieces, Kors is showing other luxury brands how to appeal to a broad consumer base.

This is a strategy that is paying off for Michael Kors. The company plans to have over 400 stores in the US by the end of 2012. In addition, Kors has seen a 25% increase in sales each year. The increase in sales means the Michael Kors brand has been able to expand internationally, opening a 7,000 square foot boutique in Paris this month. The Paris store will join recently launched boutiques in London, Milan, Munich, Seoul, and Tokyo.

The world’s economies are uncertain. People are cutting costs where they can. Michael Kors has responded to this and continues to offer watches, clothing, and accessories that can fit different budgets–all while keeping a luxury designer feel. This strategy has paid off for the brand, as it continues to grow each year.
