Swatch is having a good week. First, the Swiss National Bank decided to purchase back an unlimited amount of Francs, causing a big jump in its share price.
Now, courts have ruled in favor of Swatch in a suit filed by 11 watchmakers that would’ve forced the company to continue to supply both movements and parts to competitors moving forward. Now, they don’t have to.
So what does this mean? Well, it’s hard to say for sure but you can bet this will hurt a host of brands – big and small – that rely on ETA hearts for their pieces. But, at the same time, this ruling will hopefully lead to actual innovation in the watch industry by forcing more brands to build their own calibers. And to any of you who says “But hey, manufacture movements are always really expensive!” check out NOMOS and then get back to us.
Oh, and of course, even if ETA stops supplying movements, there will always be people like Sellita making movements to the exact same specifications.
Check out more details the WSJ.

Question by Franc
Heights of women have a bell-shaped distribution with mean of 161 cm and a standard deviation of 7cm. Using Chebyshev’s theorem, what do we know about the percentage of the women with heights that are within 2 standard deviations of the mean? What are the minimum and the maximum heights that are within 2 standard deviations of the mean?
Answer by zarh a
I can’t just give you an answer to the second part, you asked the question: what do you get when you take 161 and subtract and add twice 7 to it?
2 std devs is 97% of the area under the bell curve. It’s the value of an integral that’s difficult to do if you haven’t learned to do calculus with many variables. so presumably you have some table where you can look that up, or a function on your calculator.

IWC Question&Answer:
Question by Y_Isaac
The kids who actually likes the good guy. We laugh when the Punk came out like Hardy and all the kids fell for it.
IWC knows what’s going to happen before the WWE does, these kids do not get on to Yahoo Answers, and 411mania, and Wrestle-zone.. or edge…. or whatever. So they are just like we were when Shawn Michaels came down like the Undertaker from the ceiling in 1997. Which completely got me and was absolutely hilarious. Or when Mr. McMahon was the Undertaker’s “Higher Power”. Cut the kids some slack, they love this era but we as teenagers and adults like to ruin it for them. Go watch Spongebob and take over their show like they’ve taken over yours! Long live the PG era! I hope they bring back that corny WWE cartoon…. or not.
Answer by Deawon C Delaney
Huh…………….. oh well 2 points
