IWC Pilot’s watch Saint Exupery is an honorary celebration of aviation icon Antoine de Saint-Exupéry marking his first inspirational flight a century ago. IWC’s declaration making 2012 the year of Pilot’s Watches is well in keeping with this sixth special edition timepiece.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, aviator and author, became enthralled with aviation at the ripe age of 12 at an airfield known as the aerodrome of Ambérieu. A little white lie boarded him passage onto a W2 plane with two rounds around the field which ultimately ignited Saint-Exupery lifetime passion for aviation. IWC’s inspired Saint Exupery watch celebrates and rekindles his passion with its classic design and styling.

Saint Exupery takes flight in a stunning finely contoured 18-carat red gold case, impressive polished silky-matte finishes and a tobacco colored sun-reflective pattern dial, classically stated chronograph sub-dials along with a distinguished brown colored calfskin strap with definitive cream-colored quilted stitching which identifies this chronograph as a typical “Saint Ex”. The sapphire crystal has anti-reflective coating on both sides and is carefully sealed against drops in air pressure. The caseback exhibits a fine etching of the last plane Saint-Exupéry flew, the Lightning P-38, which lead to his demise on July 31, 1994.

Technical Attributes and Features of the Saint Exupery:

o Sixth tribute watch to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Pilot’s Watch Chronograph, with mechanical chronograph movement
o Case is 43 mm 18-carat red gold (15.5 mm thickness), tobacco-colored dial, brown calfskin strap with cream-colored quilted stitching
o Crystal is a convex sapphire with antireflective coating on both sides, water-resistant up to 6 bars

o Stopwatch function with hours, minutes and seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock

IWC and Antoine de Saint- Exupéry heirs have been collaborating on watch designs commemorating his remarkable achievement since 2006. Saint- Exupéry was well known for his published work “The Little Prince,” the best known French story in the world. IWC Saint Exupery watch encompasses and celebrates the 100th year of his first flight with its very design and classic appeal. Each of the well structured elements, finishes and touches committed to Saint Exupery watch design exhibits IWC’s meticulous craftsmanship which enhances its overall appeal.

While this is IWCs sixth special edition timepiece honoring Saint-Exupery it is also a limited edition of 500 watches meant to entice aviation connoisseurs desiring a watch that embodies a century of aviation splendor. It is a phenomenal watch meant for phenomenal connoisseurs.

The response to this morning’s post on a vintage IWC Ingenieur was really strong. In fact, traffic for it has been downright impressive.  So, on that note, and with a little dose of luck, we thought we’d show you another vintage IWC for sale, and another classic at that.

What you see here is an IWC Mark XI pilot’s watch, originally issued to the British MOD.  It dates to 1951 and features the correct military engravings on the caseback, as seen below.  You will notice the dial of the Mark XI features the military broad arrow and circled T, indicating the use of Tritium, which was also seen on the Rolex military pieces.  Price on this legendary watch in seemingly great condition is $ 5800.

Check it out for sale here, and click through for more pics.

These are the stories that bring you back to vintage watches.

A few years back, a member of the Military Watch Forum named KKMark purchased an old IWC Mark XI dating to 1952.  He was told by the dealer that the original owner of the watch was a seasoned RAF navigator and once even helped ferry the young King of Jordan and his Queen mother out of the country during a coup attempt.  KKMark didn’t think much of this, though he never forgot the name of the purported owner “Frank Jekyll”.

Then one day late last year, KKMark was reading an article about a great old military plane that had been destroyed by arson and saw that a man named “Frank Jekyll” had left a comment.  KKMark couldn’t believe it, and through the jeweller that sold him the IWC, he found out that Mr. Jekyll now lived in Montreal and evetnutally made contact with him.

KKMark and Mr. Jekyll met for lunch to see what could be shared.  It turns out, a lot.  The watch was indeed Mr. Jekyll’s and he shared with KKMark all the stories of years as a RAF navigator, which did include bring the Queen and heir apparent out of Jordan, ditching his plane in the Indian Ocean (the Mark XI was waterproof, btw), making several drops in the jungle as they fought the communists in Malaya, and being one of the first three foreigners to land in Sri Lanka after the nation declared independence (they had to take off for half an hour, circle the area, and then land in a new nation).

Mr. Jekyll also spoke about how military watches were “common as dirt” and the IWC’s and Rolexes that were issued to them were very often destroyed by anvil rather than returned, because nobody wanted to do the paperwork (watchnerd cringe!).

This is just a great story and a prime example of why vintage watches are so interesting – you just never know what one of them may lead you to.  For the full post from KKMark, click on over to the Military Watch Forum.

Question by The Clown Prince of Crime

WARNING, LONG READ AHEAD!!!

In a recent interview, although he doesn’t know if he is fit and whether or not he’s a top priority for The Streak (he implied there would be 5 potential match ups and he’s one of them), Mick Foley has admitted he would like to be considered to face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 28 next year, presumably following the promise Vince McMahon had given to him that if he returned to WWE this year (which he already did), he’d not only be granted a position backstage but also one last huge retirement match at Wrestlemania 28 next year. And if Wrestlemania 26 is any indication, a retirement match can’t be any bigger and better than a Wrestlemania match against The Undertaker like Shawn Michaels had experienced.

But as u guys might have known it, Vince also considered a Wrestlemania rematch against Mark Henry after concluding Henry’s recent run is the best run in his career and he might be the fittest man to give The Undertaker the biggest victory of his career in Undertaker’s fourth Wrestlemania rematch (after Kane, HBK, and HHH).

Needless to say, this consideration has been met with horrid reaction not only from IWC but also backstage in WWE themselves, from fellow wrestlers and officials alike, believing it would practically be a joke if after defeating Batista, Edge, Shawn Michaels twice, and Triple H the second time, The Undertaker’s 20th Wrestlemania victory, which is supposed to be the biggest victory in his career (and some may speculate even the last) would be against Mark Henry (which IMO, not only far less credible than Foley, but also historically less significant with Taker than Foley).

It has been concluded that the biggest reason why so many people object to this potential rematch is the fact that the last time Taker & Henry met at Wrestlemania 22, the result of the bout is often cited to be the worst Casket match ever held in the history of the company, which is why a rematch will definitely not attract good things. And not to mention the last time Undertaker & Henry worked together at Unforgiven 2007 after months of build up, the result ended in one of the worst PPV main events in the last decade.

Now, from Foley’s perspective, I think by saying there would be 5 match ups for The Streak match at WM 28, originally there would be 4 other people than him to face Taker at WM 28. And I assume those 4 people would be Cena, Orton, HHH, and Jericho. But as we know it, Cena will face The Rock.

And with how things go by, Triple H vs CM Punk at Wrestlemania 28 seems likelier and likelier as days go by. Some even speculated HHH will somehow cost Punk the title and claim it for himself, leading to Punk winning Royal Rumble 2012 and challenge HHH at WM 28 for the WWE title (almost similar to Edge/Taker feud in 2007 & 2008, resulting in their WM 24 match).

Chris Jericho has stated he’s not going to return to WWE in the near future, so fat chance in there.

And since Orton’s current role in SD! is practically the same with Cena’s in RAW, I think it would really be hard to imagine him not being in a WHC match at WM 28, more than likely against Daniel Bryan for an obvious reason.

On a side not, Rey Mysterio will probably face Sin Cara & Big Show is being planned to face Shaq in a celebrity match.

And that leaves Mark Henry & Mick Foley to go against Taker at WM 28. I’d personally pick Foley. Yes, he is not fit but WM 28 is 7 months away, he can get ready. Add to it he’s one of Taker’s 3 fiercest opponents (the other two being Kane & HBK) yet to face Taker at Mania. And the rest of the reason why I favor Foley has been said by other people above. And some matches, regardless of the quality, just have to happen at WM for the sake of history (e.g: Shane/Vince at WM 17, Hogan/Vince at WM 19, Goldberg/Lesnar at WM 20, Bret/Vince at WM 26, and Cole/Lawler at WM 27). Not to mention Taker’s biggest victory in his career can’t be any bigger than a victory against a longtime rival he hasn’t defeated at WM before, but I also can’t fathom who’d be the perfect last opponent for Foley than a man who by feuding with him, made both men legends.

If it were u, who u’d be u’r pick and why?

C8 Pilot Mk II Vintage Christopher Ward C8 Pilot Mark II Vintage Watch

If you need a quick pilot watch fix and don’t want to shell out four digit amounts on an IWC or something like that, then Christopher Ward’s C8 Pilot collection is a good option. Their newest version offers that slick vintage look with a tan strap and tan lume that seems to go equally well with shorts and jeans. This isn’t a new watch per se as the C8 has been in Christopher Ward’s collection for a bit, but this new version is among the most appealing.

The case is sandblasted steel and 44mm wide. I would love to see them offer a PVD black version to offer more of that Bell & Ross BR Vintage 123 look that I find so very sexy. Yea, sexy. Perhaps CW will offer that in the future. The dial of the C8 Pilot Mark II Vintage has both Arabic hour numerals and hour markers. This makes for a very tool-like look and a high degree of legibility. The 12 o’clock hour indicator is applied to keep the dial from looking too flat. This style doesn’t emanate excitement at first glance, but is visually neutral and will not stress the eyes after looking at it for a while.

C8 Pilot Mk II Vintage SVKT £365 Christopher Ward Christopher Ward C8 Pilot Mark II Vintage Watch

Note how Christopher Ward offers their own version of the pilot watch “onion” crown. It sorta of has that look while looking modern and neat. The tan leather strap is a necessary touch, but where are my beloved pilot watch strap rivets? The hands on the dial are pretty much the right size, but can look smaller in certain lights. This is due to the black edge of the hands matching the color of the dial. This is a common issue and I have actually thought a lot about how to resolve it. One idea I have had is to have the black color of the hands a slightly different shade (say a bit more gray) than the dial. Alternatively, the hand edges and dial could have a very different texture or finish – those ideas will likely help the hands stand out more, but still preserve that iconic pilot watch look. One brand that does it pretty well is IWC.

Inside of the C8 Pilot Mark II Vintage (a rather unnecessarily long name if you ask me) is a Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic movement. One design feature that is pretty satisfying is the insertion of the case via a small, round window. Not only does CW properly use a black date disc, but the window does not interfere with the 3 o’clock hour indicator. Price in England is 365 Pounds. The US price won’t be that exactly, but less. Due to UK VAT taxes (I assume) the prices outside the UK are a bit less. Figure in the $ 450 – $ 500 range for this Christopher Ward C8 Pilot Mark II watch when it is available soon.

Question by Raiden

CHARGE OF THE LITE BRIGADE

It’s easy to see where TNA’s ECW revolution is heading: Tommy Dreamer is going to wind up in charge under the guise of Paul E. Lite, and a whole lot of TNA stalwarts are going to flee to the new Wilpon promotion.

Emboldened by Impact’s latest rating – only a total twit would be encouraged by a tenth-of-a-point gain, but Dixie Carter qualifies – Dreamer will convince Dixie he can do what Heyman would, but without firing anyone and anyway, Tommy booked a lot more of the original ECW than he was given credit for (yeah, right).

Dreamer is pure mid-card, if that, but what an amazing opportunist. Hey, he married Beulah.

It’s insane to think that this salute or that style is anything beyond stop-gap but, like I said, we can all see where this is going. A lot of TNA performers have certainly caught said drift. Many want NOTHING to do with EV2, some vociferously so. You think Hulk Hogan wants his bald spot caved in by a Singapore cane? Wilpon is the next mark, and hasn’t yet had a chance to lose faith in the usual suspects.

But he will. He will.

Parenthetically speaking, Hogan’s current situation is a mess, if rumors are to be believed. He reportedly made a lump-sum divorce settlement to his wife, Linda, who used some of that dough to buy her way out of the car-wreck lawsuit. Said infusion of cash enabled the aggrieved to lawyer up and continue suing Hulk. Stuck with a mansion he can’t sell, Hogan is allegedly in deep, deep financial trouble and, for the first time, that last big match isn’t out there.

Every time I criticized Hogan back when, I was sternly reminded, “That man enabled us all to make a lot of money.” Maybe those same people will pass the hat for Hulk. Or maybe the sun will fall out of the sky. If guys like Bischoff, Heenan and Okerlund learned one thing from Hogan, it was “Every man for himself.”

If you want to see the face of truth, check out Raven when all this ECW gaga permeates TNA TV. He looks like a shoplifter. Those guys are stealing. Scotty knows it, and he can’t hide it.

Hey, where’s Kimona? Her, I would like to see.

The “success” of EV2 on TNA will probably spawn another series of “Hardcore Homecoming” indie shows. Can’t wait. At least TNA will have successfully promoted SOMETHING.

Bruce Mitchell of Pro Wrestling Torch is writing an excellent series on how to fix TNA, and he makes one particular point I’d like to expand upon – the crowd at the Impact Zone wouldn’t like the necessary changes. So what? They’re freeloaders, and they’re holding back TNA. You can’t let one crowd in one arena dictate your big picture
THE SLOP DROP

Samoa Joe’s suspension from TNA isn’t a story. Who cares?

But that Joe – a total nobody in the big picture – felt conceited enough to throw a series of tantrums shows how the Internet wrestling community has twisted the business.

Joe sucks. Always has. He’s an ugly, fat bastard who speaks haltingly and unconvincingly. Overwrought facials, too. He looks tough, and works tight, but big deal. He’s never drawn. Never been on the big show. He’s a NOBODY.

But Joe believes his own BS. Joe’s BS was birthed and nurtured by the IWC. I’ve never talked to ANYONE, not ONE SINGLE PERSON legitimately connected to wrestling, who thought Joe was anything even remotely special. But the IWC latched onto his work in ROH, embraced it, embellished it and appraised Joe as a big star. Joe believed it.

The IWC was wrong. Joe was wrong. He sucks. Forget the suspension. TNA should fire his fat, frumpy ass. WWE would NOT come calling.

PAY UP, SUCKERS

I need to write a book. To wit – before going to work for WWE, Trish Stratus interviewed with WCW. I was there. It was before a PPV in Toronto. WWE didn’t even know who she was at the time. Why didn’t Trish work for WCW?

I know why. Someday I’ll tell – for $ 25.95, hardcover.
I didn’t write it Mark did just know some people read his column’s.I was just wanting to know why he is always down on TNA so much?

Best answer:

Answer by Ziggler Y!A Mafia
I have no idea what you are talking about. If I want to get confused, I just go to school and not pay $ 25.95 for some hardcover book.
