One of the biggest markets for luxury watches and jewelry is Asia. Asian consumers have been buying luxury goods in increasing numbers. For the Swiss luxury company Richemont, and in particular its brand Baume et Mercier, this is extremely good news, as sales have helped the watch brand see new life after being relaunched last January.

This past fall, sales of goods within the Richemont holdings jumped 24 percent over last year to 2.6 billion Euros (about $ 3.3 billion). The Asian-Pacific market showed significant gains, climbing more than a third to 1.1 billion Euros. Revenue in the Americas climbed 23 percent to 382 million Euros, followed by a 16 percent gain in Europe, up to 914 million Euros. Most of the demand in Asia has come from Hong Kong and China. Richemont’s holdings include Cartier, Vacheron Constantin, Piaget, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, and Baume et Mercier.

This is good news for Baume et Mercier, which is on track to break even after a relaunch of the brand last January. Baume et Mercier has had trouble over the past four to five years, losing money for Richemont over that time period. Part of the issue has been that the brand is positioned at the lower end of the the Swiss watch market. Baume et Mercier has seen competition heat up from less expensive brands Omega and TAG Heuer, which have hurt business.

Baume et Mercier, founded in 1830, still has a bit of catching up to do within that Asian markets, at least compared to other brands within the Richemont company. One other area of growth that has potential for the brand is attracting more women, who currently make-up about a third of Baume et Mercier buyers.

Rebuilding and re-branding is not a quick or easy process. Says Baume et Mercier’s chief executive Alain Zimmerman, “We want to improve and make a profit, but we know that at the same time building a brand and bringing a new identity needs investment and time.”

And time will tell how Baume et Mercier will do–not only in the growing Asian market, but beyond.

Michael Kors Golden Large Runway Double Glitz Watch

Spring’s flowers have bloomed and so have the trends for Michael Korswatches. This season, Michael Kors watches set in golden steel casings and tortoise acetate are officially in. The Mini-Size Tessa Three-Hand Watch is yet another effortless blend of the Golden and Tortoise essences with a unique shape of its own. Almost completely disguised as a bracelet, the Tessa’s rectangular case cheekily contains its golden face inside the constraints of the strap. The bracelet strap is made up of tortoise acetate enclosing links of gold stainless steel, providing a lightweight alternative to those who find conventional watch shapes a burden. At the price of $ 160, one may find this watch a lighter burden on one’s wallet as well.

The appropriately named Tortoise Show Stopper Glitz Watch stands in a league of its own, with a bracelet strap made completely from tortoise. This lends a rugged look and a deep contrast to the swanky rose gold bezel glittering with crystals. A dark brown ring encloses the mother of pearl face and three sub dials, and the date window and stopwatch give off the signature vibe of Michael Kors watches. Juxtaposing the fundamentals from the two collections so sharply results in a lasting impression, and at $ 275 the Show Stopper thus fulfills its duty.

Vacheron Constantin is doing its good deed for the holiday season. 

The vintage Vacheron above was lost in a prominent NYC restaurant recently.  Vacheron was contacted by that restaurant about the loss, and now they have put out a call to the watch collecting community to help try to find its rightful owner. 

The watch has been identified as reference number 4413 and houses a manual wound 17 jewel movement, caliber P454/5B within an 18 carat yellow-gold case and dates to 1955.  Even more impressive? It still has the original domed crystal!

Vacheron is in possession of the watch, and whoever can identify where the watch was lost, approximiately when, and provide some historical background as to how they received the watch, will have it returned to them free of charge!

If your have not read the books your not really going to understand it. But you have to take into consideration that the movie doesn’t look that good to people who have not read it because the book was very slow and there was not an external conflict. New Moon is just a build up of events that explode in Eclipse. So the movie did a very good job with depicting what Meyer was trying to convey. Overall I would rate it a good 7/10 I thoroughly enjoyed it(;
