Beautiful Perrelet Turbine model, to commemorate this year of the dragon. Perrelet has been doing well with their Turbine line of watches, and has released a very cool Limited edition featuring a Dragon carved from hand-colored Polynesian Mother-of-Pearl and then encrusted onto a solid white mother-of-pearl dial. The images of the dragon is obscured by the turbine, but when the turbine is spinning, the dragon is visible in its entirity.

The watch measures 44mm in diameter and 13mm in thickness. And features a black DLC coated steel case with sapphire crystals. Movement is the Perrelet exclusive P-331 Double Rotor movement. An incredible watch. I would love to see the dragon without the rotor obscuring, but could not find any photos!

American automotive legend Carroll Shelby passed away recently. He worked up until the end of his life and helped changed the face of what was cool in American automobiles. He is most well-known for his long partnership with Ford producing many versions of the Shelby Mustang, as well as the famous Shelby Cobra car. Just before he died, Shelby American released a new version of the Shelby Mustang called the Shelby 1000. It is meant to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company, and has 1,100hp. So where does that 1000 number come from? I really don’t know.

Shelby partnered with David Yurman for a special limited edition version of their Revolution sport watch called the David Yurman Revolution Shelby 1000 Limited Edition. Actually there are two versions of the watch. One is strictly limited, and the other will have a “limited production.” The cool watch gracefully embodies the spirit of the Cobra and the famous sport’s mark marque. Other brands such as MARCH LA.B have worked with Shelby before. This one however is specially made for the Shelby 1000 and the 50th anniversary of the car maker. At the same time it can live alone as a cool Shelby Cobra themed chronograph.

The already handsome David Yurman Revolution received a few impressive modifications for this limited edition piece. Wait a minute, since when does David Yurman make cool sport watches? Well as of recently I guess. The long time watch maker has seemingly gotten more involved with sport watches and this is proof they more or less know what they are doing. I guess that means David Yurman is back on the list of brands to watch.

The Revolution Shelby 1000 watch is 43.5mm wide in steel. The limited edition version is in black vulcanized rubber coated steel. The normal version has some rubber elements with a brushed steel case. The bezel has a tachymeter (of course), and the sides of the case are black on both models. I really like how the chronograph pushers are integrated into the design to look like crown guards. I have always had a weakness for this design style.

On the dial are the signature Shelby double racing stripes and of course the cobra. It just isn’t Shelby without the cobra figurine. While I typically don’t like shared dial branding, I think the David Yurman and Shelby names co-exist in a reasonable way on the dial. As an American car lover, it is pretty sweet. Cooler still is the strap. Now that is a clever piece of design. David Yurman continued the look of the cobra snake body into the rubber strap. How sweet is that? I really like this design element a lot actually – even though on paper it could sound cheesy.

Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA Valjoux 7753 automatic chronograph movement. On the back of the case is Carroll Shelby’s signature (no he didn’t sign each one). The 12 hour register was removed on the dial to offer a cleaner bi-compax chronograph layout. It works for the design, and I appreciate the instrumental design of the chronograph subdials.

Coated in black rubber the David Yurman Shelby 1000 watch will be limited to 150 pieces and be priced at $ 8,600. The steel version that is not limited to a specific production amount (will likely be make for a year or so before production ends), will be priced at $ 7,200. Seems like a rather large price gap between the two right? The watches are very cool and look for availability in November 2012.

Chopard designed its Limited Edition L.U.C. Tourbillon Dragon watch to not only commemorate the Chinese New Year of the Dragon but to breathe an air of fierce styling.

This limited edition Chopard L.U.C. Tourbillon Dragon watch exhibits classic yet ornate styling details. It also showcases “movement bridges adorned with gravure à filet (fillet engraving)” synonymous of a distinct engraving practice found in Fleurier village situated in Canton Neuchâtel, Switzerland. It is an engraving technique that requires hours of hard work and a perfect mastery of intricate tools that involves sculpting, literally carving out ornate design motifs on gold movement bridges and removing surrounding material to expose the artistry of ingenious sculpting design.

Chopard originally launched its first series of limited edition watches exhibiting the gravure à filet artistry in 2010 when it celebrated its 150th anniversary. The limited editions released then consisted of 15 pieces, the limited edition Year of the Dragon Chopard L.U.C. Tourbillon Dragon watch consists of only eight pieces.

Chopard’s L.U.C. Tourbillon Dragon has a beautiful 18k rose gold case, a guilloche silver 18k gold dial, fine fillet engraved exhibition back, glareproofed sapphire crystals, and exquisite hand-wound tourbillon movement L.U.C. 02.02-L with 33 jewels. It sports a hand-sewn brown alligator strap with an 18k rose gold pin buckle.

The caseback bears the “Year of the Dragon” inscription along with a beautiful ornately sculpted dragon sprawled across the caseback. The caseback also reveals the watch’s inner working mechanisms along with the inscribed numbered piece of the watch.

The 18k white gold six millimeter crown is another finishing touch bearing the signature L.U.C. logo finely inscribed on it. In addition, L.U.C. Tourbillon Dragon is water resistant up to 30-meter, and has an amazing 9-day power reserve, which in terms of timekeeping is quite demonstrative.

Harry Winston has been making timepieces that are recognized for their design as well as their innovation for over 2 decades. Collections such as The Opius Series have left their unique mark on the horological heritage. The brand has now created a timepiece for sports watch lovers and it is the new Ocean Sport Chronograph. This timepiece comes in beautiful light grey and white hues with blue spots that give it a chic and stylish look. The watch has a case that is 44 millimeter in diameter and 14.8 millimeter thick and is made of Zalium, which is one of the signature features of Harry Winston watches. Zalium, a hypoallergenic alloy made of zirconium and aluminum, is a light but tough metal that keeps the watch resistant to corrosion and scratches. The bezel is also made of this alloy. The dial has a sophisticated, three-dimensional look with its graphic cut-outs that focus the eye on the display mechanism. Additionally, there is a shot-peened date display at the 12 o’clock position and the Harry Winston logo at the 3 o’clock position. The lugs and chronograph pushers are coated with diamond like carbon that makes them extremely durable. Furthermore, this model is also water resistant up to 200 meters.

This watch comes in black rubber strap and folding buckle that is made for comfort when worn and complements the sporty look of the timepiece. It combines the multifunction of sports watch with the sophisticated features of a luxury watch. This Harry Winston ocean sport chronograph is a quality watch that is currently listed at $ 31,500.

Last year, Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrated the roots of the Reverso with a limited edition model of the Tribute To 1931 called the “US Limited Edition”.  This watch closely resembled the standard production TT 1931 Reverso but took on a slightly more historic tone, with a warmer shade to the hands and hour markers, and slightly different script on the dial.  But, what made the limited edition of 100 US Edition Reverso stand out (see our detailed ruminations on it here here) and made it one of the hottest selling watches of 2011 for JLC was the strap on which it came. 

You see, the strap that came on the US Edition of the TT 1931 Reverso was hand-made by Casa Fagliano – and Casa Fagliano is the leading producer of championship grade polo boots in the world.  But when we say “leading” we certainly don’t mean they make the most – in fact, they make but 90 pairs of boots per year – by “leading” we mean that they are regarded the world over as the finest riding boots money can buy.  They are made by hand in the suburbs of Buenos Aires just as they were four generations ago, and with the US Edition Reverso, the 100 lucky owners would be granted access to the exclusive club of Casa Fagliano.

CVSTOS has designed the Challenge Pilot RC Limited Edition watch inspired by the Formula 1 champion, Ringo Chong. The inspirational watch has been imbued with traits of the young victor – originality, love of speed and the spirit of sportsmanship.

CVSTOS, Latin for “guardian,” is a Swiss company launched in 2005. The brand quickly became known for their innovative and high-tech approach to their one-of-a-kind timepieces. The CVSTOS Challenge Pilot RC Limited Edition watch certainly gives the appearance of being unique. Its black case is barrel-shaped and made of steel and aluminum alloy. Sharp yellow, a take from Ringo’s Ferrari, stripes and inserts provide a nice contrast against the black and charcoal background. Sub dials sit at the three, six and nine o’clock positions for the chronograph counters and the automatic movement comes with 48 hours of power reserve.

The bright yellow coloring is also seen in the stitching along the Alcantara wrist strap, which is a suede leather that was developed for the F1 race cars as the seat or steering wheel covering. The color pattern continues with “Start/Stop” and “Reset” buttons placed on the right side of the watch. Their design is made to resemble the pedals in a race car. The “Date” button rests on the left side of the watch. To complete the package honoring Ringo, his name has been placed inside a small rectangular red box on the dial to the left of the 12 o’clock position.

CVSTOS has boldly stepped into the future with the design of the Challenge Pilot RC Limited Edition watch. The innovation and technical knowledge that has been displayed is a tribute to, not only Ringo Chong, but the brand. CVSTOS has shown that they are a powerful watchmaking brand that can create a new concept and fulfill it with their inherent skills and mechanical timepiece expertise.
