If you don’t have lower denomination stamps, two 44 cents will do the trick.

Hublot Liberty Bang watch Hublot US Liberty Bang Limited Edition Watch

Is this the week of American themed watches or what? Just a few days ago I discussed the Perrelet Turbine XL America, that was a bit of a polarizing piece. Now I present to the Swiss Hublot US Liberty Bang – one of Hublot’s latest limited edition Big Bang watches. This watch was unveiled recently in Philadelphia of all places – during the annual award ceremony where the Constitution Center (a non-government organization) gave out its annual Liberty Medal award.

The watch will be exclusively available in the US (duh) and limited to just 100 pieces. The dial of the 45mm wide Big Bang watch has a US flag motif made up of text. That text begins with the preamble of the US Constitution followed by other that as far as I know is not in the Constitution I read. Seems like descriptive text talking about the founding fathers, etc… Still pretty cool. It is interesting from a poetic standpoint to have the flag made up of words, as powerful words were really what we study when discussing the history of the US and its formation. The watch case is in black ceramic and priced at $ 11,900.

Question by FlywithUS

I am on vacation in Philly and I notice that some street signs have a liberty bell symbol to the left of the street name. Why is this?

Best answer:

Answer by Wallster
It ‘s because all Philly-steaks and Philly cream cheeses are curiously shaped like bells. ( Or it could be that the Liberty Bell is on display in Philadelphia at Market and 5th Street)

Of course I could look this up myself, but what I want to know is if any US citizens already know, without looking it up, why the Liberty Bell is so important. What important event(s) is involved with the Liberty Bell?
Please, no cut-and-pastes. As I said, I want to know what the average US citizen already knows about the Liberty Bell, without looking it up.

Answer by staisil
On July 8, 1776, with the Liberty Bell ringing out from the tower of Independence Hall summoning the citizens of Philadelphia to hear the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Colonel John Nixon.

The Pennsylvania Assembly ordered the Bell in 1751 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of William Penn’s 1701 Charter of Privileges, Pennsylvania’s original Constitution. It speaks of the rights and freedoms valued by people the world over. Particularly forward thinking were Penn’s ideas on religious freedom, his liberal stance on Native American rights, and his inclusion of citizens in enacting laws.

As the Bell was created to commemorate the golden anniversary of Penn’s Charter, the quotation “Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof,” from Leviticus 25:10, was particularly apt. For the line in the Bible immediately preceding “proclaim liberty” is, “And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year.” What better way to pay homage to Penn and hallow the 50th year than with a bell proclaiming liberty?

Question by GB1990

I realize that the last thing people want is more government spending but I can’t imagine it would cost that much to fix. Do you think that this very important national symbol should be restored to its former glory or should we allow it to continue to wallow in a state of disrepair? With everything Obama spends money on does it strike you as odd he hasn’t allocated any money to fixing the Liberty Bell?

Best answer:

Answer by Patchouli42
At this stage the crack is as much part of the bell as its ring.

“Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death.”
James Madison, Father of the Constitution for the USA, 4th US President

It wasn’t called the Democracy Bell, it was called the Liberty Bell and for a very good reason. The Founding Fathers did not structure our country to be a “democracy”, yet that is all you ever hear our country described as anymore. I suspect that the word “democracy” has been inserted into vox populi, because it moves us away from “liberty” and toward the very Marxist ideals of “social justice” and “economic democracy.” (As if the world has not seen enough oppression and mass murder in the name of these failed ideas.) Unfortunately, the Marxists control our media, educational system and body politic. How can we teach our citizens why it is called the Liberty Bell?

Best answer:

Hit it a good champ with a hammer
