Proto Zero Master Grande Tradition a Repetition Minutes

The "Proto Zero" of Jaeger LeCoultre's limited edition Master Grande Tradition a Repetition Minutes

Jaeger LeCoultre recently unveiled its “Proto Zero” watches, to be sold exclusively at Hong Kong’s recently opened Jaeger LeCoultre Boutique at Heritage 1881. Jaeger LeCoultre is working in conjunction with the Hong Kong charity End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation (ECSAF), which will receive 10 percent of all the proceeds from the sale of the watch.

“Proto Zero” watches are essentially the hand crafted prototypes of a select number of limited edition watches in the Jaeger LeCoultre collection. They have been refurbished, tested for quality control and meet the exacting standards of Jaeger LeCoultre. The scarcity of these models combined with their historical significance make them coveted pieces for any serious collector. Typically, prototypes have been stored at the Jaeger-LeCoultre watch factory in Vallée de Joux, Switzerland, and are not sold.

The End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation is a non-governmental philanthropic organization initiated in 1998 by actress and clinical psychologist Josephine Siao. Says Jaeger LeCoultre CEO Jerome Lambert: “Jaeger-LeCoultre is proud to present the unique ‘Proto Zero’ to the connoisseurs of Hong Kong. We are particularly proud to support the charitable cause of End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation with these one-of-a-kind creations. We perceive this project as a meaningful collaboration between our brand and our supporters to join hands in contributing to a good cause.”

The “Proto Zero” watches available at the Heritage 1881 Boutique are:

  • Master Grande Tradition a Répétition Minutes: A hand-wound 44mm titanium, it features a sapphire case back and an alligator strap. It has a power reserve of 15 days and is water resistant to 50 meters.
  • Master Grande Tradition à Tourbillon 43: An automatic 43mm watch displayed in a platinum case.
  • Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2: Equipped as Jaeger LeCoultre’s pioneering reversible model, this piece’s case flips around so that the back can be displayed. A 36 mm x 55 mm x 15.8 mm with hand-winding mechanism.

The Heritage 1881 Boutique is the third Jaeger LeCoultre boutique in Hong Kong, and the first outside of the Vallee de Joux factory to feature the unique and aesthetically stunning “Wall of Movements.” The wall is an approximately 15 foot transparent display that exhibits the evolution of nearly two centuries of Jaeger LeCoultre’s collection of watch calipers. This formidable installation is just one of the many features that makes the Heritage 1881 Boutique such a point of pride for the Jaeger LeCoultre organization, and the perfect milieu for the “Proto Zero.”

hey guys, im heading to HK soon, looking to snare a couple of fake rolexes for my friends back home. also does anyone know where to buy cheap camera gear? or there not that much diff from US and Aus prices? any markets i should know about which have cool cheap electronic gadgetry!?

I can only give you info on FAKE WATCHES. ROLEX being the most common. Selling any “FAKE” good in HK is illegal. Just like any BIG city in the world they do have the FAKES. And HK being so close to Mainland China, they will have more. To find Fake watches all you need to do is WALK. Yes walk up Nathan Rd in Kowloon. There you will be bombarded with calls from MOSTLY Indian men asking if you want a suit or a FAKE ROLEX. This is very sketchy at the least. I got wrangled in to a situation not too long ago…. I accepted the mans invite to go look at some watches. He lead me through back alleys, corridors and to an apartment building. Under a mattress he unveiled several Fake Rolex watches. (side note… In Mainland China you can get a Fake Rolex for as little as $ 15.00 USA. This is what I was looking for. They are cheap and not the best fakes… I SUPPOSE… But I was just looking for a cheap watch for my Dad) Back to HK and the secluded apartment… The man wanted upwards to $ 200.00 for the watches. This was WAY more than I ever wanted to pay. He asked what I wanted to pay. As not to offend by saying $ 20.00 I said $ 40.00. You would have thought I shot his dog! We then parted ways.

There may be some street vendors selling watches. I have not seen them. Selling those types of watches is closely “watched”

Many think HK has very cheap goods. But in reality they do not. You may find some deals on things. Also you have to be careful that what you think is real is just a fake itself. Several people on Yahoo Answers think you can get Apple Computers for a steal in HK. This is just not true.

My Suggestion for you is to Cross to Shenzhen or Guangzhou, China and get some VERY cheap things. Yes all fake. I know for a fact you can get watches and Purses that are fake for a LOW price. Cameras I know they have but I have yet to search those out. If you decide to go into China… when you enter Shenzhen you most likely will be asked by a young Chinese guy if you want to go shopping. At this point you can ask for CHEAP WATCHES.

Good luck.

This past saturday, June 25, Antiquorum held a sale in Hong Kong.  Beyond your typical selection of pricey Pateks and ridiculous Rolexes, there were two modern watches to which we were paying close attention

The two came from independent brands creating haute horology that are united not by what they are, but by what they are not – and what they are not are manufacturers.  Yet, Maîtres du Temps and MB&F are two of the most talked about modern independent brands and they are truly phenomenal at bringing people together.  In the case of MdT and their Chapter Two, we are talking about Daniel Roth, Peter Speake-Marin, and Roger Dubuis. In the case of MB&F and their HM2, we are talking about Eric Giroud and Jean-Marc Wiederrecht.  Both of these watches are relatively new and their value on the secondary market has yet to be established.  Though, after Saturday, we now have a better idea.

While the MB&F HM2 and Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two were the most interesting of the modern watches to sell in Hong Kong over the weekend, the most interesting vintage piece was not from Rolex or Patek, but rather a continuation of a spectacular (or spectacularly frustrating) rise in value – depending, of course, which side of the buy/sell equation you reside.  The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref 5402 “A-Series” is a watch we’ve discussed before.  It is one of the most important sport watches in the world, and last time we showed you one for sale, it set a record price at auction of about $ 23,750.

This past saturday, that record was broken when A-Series number 745 sold for 212,500 HKD, or over $ 27,000. This time last year, these watches were selling regularly for around $ 13,000 (see AQ May 2010).   One can assume this run on the early RO’s is due to the looming 40th anniversary of the model to be seen at SIHH 2012.

What is most interesting is how these early Royal Oaks are just as, if not more valuable than early Patek Philippe Nautilus models – a watch that has historically been a much stronger seller.  The last vintage Nautilus Ref 3700/1A sold on June 8th in London for 16,800 GBP, or roughly $ 26,828, and that included the original cork box!  Of course, one has to imagine the Nautilus will benefit from the same run in four years when it reaches its fourth decade.

But, for now, the A-Series Royal Oak remains one of the most interesting stories in the vintage watch world – a watch that has seemingly doubled in value in one year’s time.  To see lot details of this record-setting Royal Oak, click here.

Question by Brit

Going to Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Need FAKE shopping advice:

I won’t be there for long, so I don’t have time to look around, but I was wondering if anyone can give me good addresses for places where I can buy high-quality replica brand watches like rolex or fake jewelry or fake brand clothes like D&G etc.. or anything like that.. I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
