The watchmakers at Breguet have wished a very happy bicentennial to their own very first recorded wristwatch in an exhibition that started on January 16th and ended last Sunday (Feb 12th). The exhibition was held in Geneva’s Cité du Temps, and was coincided with the prestigious Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH ). The Geneva exhibition is designed for visitors to discover the unique history of this groundbreaking timepiece and the mystery of what became of it.
Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples, first wristwatch owner
As far as horological history can tell us the first record of a wristwatch was ordered by Napoleon Bonaparte’s sister, Caroline Murat in 1810. At the time, Murat sat on the throne as the Queen of Naples, and was a well-known admirer of the timepieces made by Breguet founder, Abraham-Louis Breguet. Yes, Breguet can say they made the first wristwatch for a queen. Queen Caroline’s wristwatch took two years to make and safely deliver, and was only one of the many she ordered from Breguet over the years.
Though the famous first wristwatch has never been found in any public or private collection, the little that is known of it is that the model number was N° 2639.
Nevertheless, Queen Caroline’s special relationship as the favorite customer of Breguet during this time produced something revolutionary. The watch as we know it was a very thin (for the time) repeating watch, had an oblong feminine shape, was set with a thermometer and used hair intertwined with gold thread to create the strap. The concept must have certainly been innovative and fascinating for the time. As Queen Caroline was known to history as extravagant and ambitious, it is no surprise that she would dream up an ostentatious new watch to be paraded on her wrist at court.
A Reine de Naples watch, inspired by the first wristwatch
The event in Geneva was also used by Breguet to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the more modern Reine de Naples ladies’ watch collection. The public re-discovery of the Reine de Naples collection also allowed for many experts in the horological field to offer their expertise on the Breguet line. These women’s watches are very much reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, with their exaggerated and surreal numbers spinning around the watch’s face. Breguet’s official website states that the line was inspired by Queen Caroline’s first wristwatch, as well as others made for Marie Antoinnette and Empress Josephine. The collection was designed to create a symbol of feminine refinement and precision.

My Wife is the best.. for our 2nd wedding anniversary, she got me a Rolex Milgauss! I am so stoked about this watch.. I’ve wanted it for quite a while, and its the only other Rolex besides my GMT-II Ceramic that I want. Now I am satisfied with my modest Rolex collection of two watches.
A quick wrist shot peak, and a review to follow:

Black Fruitz Seems Sad
The Fruitz Watches Happy Hour White Russian Natural Frequency Ladies Watch F43S-W-B is an interesting design. Featuring mood enhancing technology, the Fruitz Happy Hour Whit Russian seems to have all the components of a great watch. Given the fact that most Fruitz watches retail for just around $ 225…what could I possibly have to complain about this watch?
Well, I don’t know about you, but this particular timepiece kind of looks like an angry old man. Do you see that? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the crisp white dial and black strap, but I can’t get around that face. The stark white dial is interrupted only by the black accents outlining the chronographic features. The idea is sleek and modern, but all I see when I look at this watch is two angry eyes and a frown. Geez, I really want to love it, but I’m not sure I will be able to ignore that sour puss.
If you see the same thing as me, maybe you should check out other Fruitz models. There are many different versions of this women’s watch that give off a happy and joyful feel. See the entire collection on line at Fruitz or Watches on Net.

Question by Alberto Del Rio
Every WM has 4 main event style big matches, WWE announced 2 tonight.
John Cena vs. The Miz – WWE Championship
Alberto Del Rio vs. Edge vs. Christian – World Heavyweight Championship
What do you think of the 2 main events so far? I like the Triple threat match. John Cena vs. The Miz has an OBVIOUS winner. Oh well.
What does the IWC think of the two match ups?
Answer by Go Reds/Buckeyes/Bengals
How is it Alberto Del Rio vs. Edge vs. Christian?

Chopard expands on its Happy Diamond Sport collection with a summer offering called the Happy Sport La Vie En Rose. The famous Edith Piaf song lends itself to these timepieces that have silhouette style roses on the dials – with or without diamonds. Perhaps this is also an unofficial watch from Chopard to its fans in France.
The 36mm wide watches are in steel or 18k rose gold (or steel with an 18k rose gold bezel). The loveliest models have rose colored sapphires set in the bezel – as well as diamonds mixed into the decor on the dial. Like all Happy Diamond watches, a few floating diamonds are sandwiched between two sapphire crystals and move around freely over the dial. The collection has a few dial styles and straps to choose from, presumably all in tones that will match rose colors. The entire Happy Sport La Vie En Rose collection will be limited to about 525 pieces total. Inside the watches are Swiss quartz movements. Look for them soon.
