German manufacture NOMOS added two new models to their popular Zurich line this week at Basel, the Zurich “Blaugold” and “Braungold.” Changes are limited to the dials of these watches, as you’ll find the same lovely epsilon movement within. The addition of color goes a long way here, and NOMOS fans will undoubtedly appreciate the additions as they add to an already colorful past for the brand.

There were no new calibers from the brand this year, though we are assured development is underway and we can expect to see something next year, perhaps a new complication.

We got our hands on the new Zurich models today so check out more live pics after the break. Pricing for both is 2960 Euros.

The man synonymous with the square faced watch from Heuer finally has his own editions to boast with two new Monacos being released this year by TAG. The McQueen Monacos, as you might expect in a watch bearing his name, are each a distinctive blue, and each can only be bought at TAG Heuer boutiques. Just how close are they to the watch he made famous on the set of Le Mans? Both a lot and a little. 

The 1133B that Steve wore while filming Le Mans was blue with white sub dials for the chronograph timing. The new McQueen Monacos capture this color scheme quite well, and in addition receive graphic stripes down the center meant to invoke the original Gulf Racer and racing suit that McQueen wore. TAG built two different variants of the new Monaco, one in their “Twenty Four” case and the other in a far more traditional case.

The Monaco Twenty Four McQueen uses the 40.5mm case from past Twenty Four watches, but makes aesthetic changes by replacing the orange arms at the corners with blue ones. The dial is rich blue with brushed metal shielding flanking the perimeter and defining the shape of the sub dials. If you’re a fan of the Twenty Four but prefer more subdued colors on your wrist, this is the watch for you. 

The Monaco Steve McQueen Calibre 11 takes the more traditional route, as seen on other modern re-issues of late. The 39mm case sees the crown moved to the lefthand side, as seen in the original. Also lending to the vintage look is the dial using the throwback “Heuer” logo sans the “TAG”, circular lume at the angled hour markers and the old-school hands.

Ask any watch brand in the world which market is the fastest growing / most important and 9/10, you’ll hear “China.”  The Chinese love their luxury timepieces, and so do the government officials who rule them.  Well-known activist Huaguoshanzonshuji completed a comprehensive survey of just what type of wristwatches were worn by government workers and published it on his microblog.  It reported that the president of the national development and reform commission for the eastern province of Zhejiang was wearing an $ 11,000 Rolex and the vice president of the China national school of administration was wearing an even more valuable Piaget.

But, before the report could hit a great number of eyes, it was removed from Huaguoshanzonshuji’s server.  We wonder what else these guys were wearing…

Now this is a nice little story that will warm that hearts of all watch lovers. For years Audemars Piguet (among other high-end watch brands) have been featured in the HBO series Entourage. Co-star Jeremy Piven’s character Ari Gold wore at least a few Audemars Piguet watches.

Most recently we was wearing a solid 18k rose gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph (ref. 25960OR.OO.1185OR.01). I believe this is the piece shown in the article. I actually haven’t been able to catch all of Entourage’s final season 8 get get the full story on Gold getting the watch. OK, that is all nice and good, but such Hollywood watch placements are common. The fun news is that the show’s creator Doug Ellin gifted Piven the watch to keep as a token of his gratitude for Piven’s role in the series.

It just goes to show how a watch still makes an excellent and sentimental gift. The rose gold Royal Oak Chronograph retails for about $ 50,000 I believe. Enjoy the last season of the show and look out for nice watches on the large (or little) screen.

We’ve all done things we aren’t particularly proud of, like that mullet in the 80′s, an eyebrow peircing in college, and maybe even an unsightly tattoo at the bottom of your back. We’ve found a gentleman whose lapse in judgement has resulted in one of the most unfortunate tattoo’s any horological enthusiast will likely ever behold. If you find the act of wearing a diamond dialed Rolex mildly offensive, surely the sight of one permantently emblazoned on the wrist will put you over the edge. 

Adding insult to injury, the watch is not set to 10:10, but rather, in what is surely a coincidence, 4:20. Let’s hope this unsightly inking is the result of a poorly placed bet.

- the ones we know about as well as any more that come – have a chance to work their “magic,” I think I am going to become a professional photographer and capture “The New Depression” in a prize winning photograph. I’m sure most of you are familiar with the “Migrant Mother,” a photograph taken in 1936 by Dorothea Lange which became one of the most famous representations of The Great Depression.. Well, I plan to achieve that same success with my own photographs. Anyone want to be my subject? I don’t mind if you’re a socialist or a republican, we’ll all be in the same boat soon enough.
