Imagine a cushion shaped mono-pusher chronograph wristwatch from a storied brand like Vacheron Constantin, that dates to 1930. A watch such as this is surely a valuable one and the type of thing an auction house like Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Antiquorum, or Bonhams would love to have. In fact, the Vacheron you see above, the reference 2990 mono-pusher from 1930 is in fact a watch that was sold by Christie’s in May of last year (2011) for over $ 56,000. In other instances, examples for the 2990 mono-pusher from VC has broken $ 100,000.
But, if you happen to be cruisin the ‘Bay (that’s “browsing watches on eBay” for those who don’t speak watchnerd), and enter “vintage Vacheron,” you will come across a watch that looks very much like this one. Actually, the seller claims it is this one – a Vacheron Constantin reference 2990 mono-pusher chronographer in a solid gold cushion style case from 1930. And, it’s only at $ 2,175! What a bargain!
Except it’s a total fake.

Question by Profit
Just wanted to know if it is a good product to sell for profits.
Answer by diet_coke_ca
“Replica” is a fancy way of saying “counterfeit”. Counterfeits are illegal. You would be committing a crime.
If you’re intent on making money through criminal activity, might I suggest dealing drugs in the street? Much more profitable.

Question by Sq W
I’m thinking getting a citizen watch for my bf but I found the price I got on Ebay is more than $ 100 cheaper than amazon. I was wondering if they’re fake…Anyone could explain this for me? THX!
I’m seeing two watches. Both of them are unfortunately citizen…
Answer by violinner
If something seems too good to be true, it usually is.
The authentic watches on eBay are used.
The new ones are fake.
It’s as simple as that.
By the way, a $ 40 watch can be bought that is much more accurate than a Rolex, and no less accurate than the most expensive Citizen.

Answer by cowboydoc
” Let the buyer beware” as the saying goes. I bought on E-bay, lathe chisels, go took, they were thirty five dollars, I could have got the same thing in Walmart crafts for $ 9.95 tinker toys.
I bought plants from some of there suppliers, all were almost dead or drying up when they came, non lived.
Usually the postage is higher then the items sold, something amiss here ?
Your getting items they can’t sell anywhere else, sheenies and gypsies.

This is perhaps one of the stranger posts we have done on HODINKEE, but it is for something in the vintage watch world that is rarely, if ever seen: an original Blancpain Fifty Fathoms box.
As you know, we love vintage Blancpain diving watches, and they have skyrocketed in value the last couple years. So, finding original box of these 1950s divers (like one that came with this new old stock Blancpain Aqua Lung) is nearly impossible, perhaps because of their very simple, disposable nature. This one is currently on eBay and will be ending soon, available here.
And another bit of trivia for you. The strap that was often originally on these Blancpains was an Apollo Tropic strap that you can see for sale here. It is always interesting to learn what kind of packaging, materials, and straps originally accompanied the vintage watches that we prize today.

Question by John R
Well to put it simply I sold a stolen watch on ebay without knowing it was stolen. I received a phone call from a detective who is looking for the watch and who got my information from the bum that sold it to me after he was arrested. The detective just wanted to find the rolex and return it to the owner so i gave him the information of the ebay buyer so he could go retrieve it. There are not going to be any charges pressed against me but I just want some opinions on what will happen next. Probably contact from paypal or whatever, but will I have to give the seller back his money at all?
Answer by Roddy
The seller will ask PayPal for their money back. PayPal will give it to them. Might as well hand it over. I imagine a Rolex brought you quite a bit of money and it’s probably enough to sue you over. You can lose at PayPal or you can lose in court.
It’s even possible the buyer will contact his police department and demand to press charges since you sold a stolen item even if your local police department doesn’t. Best to just get it over with and avoid a lot of problems.

We’ve always said a Rolex is as good as cash in your hand, and now we’re about to find out just how much cash. A man in Granada Hills, CA has listed his entire vintage and modern Rolex collection – 19 watches in total – on eBay in hopes of sending his son to school at UCLA. What is most surprising though, is that he’s decided to sell all 19 watches in one auction.
This is an odd choice because some of the watches are really quite special, such as an early Turn-O-Graph with original bracelet, a nice Red Submariner, and nice 1675 GMT, while others are pretty ordinary. Also, modern Rolex buyers tend to be a wholly different set of people from vintage Rolex buyers. So, who out there needs 19 Rolex watches, some of which are fantastic early models, some of which are mundane modern pieces?
As of right now, the auction, which started at $ 100, has 14 bids and has reached $ 70,200. There are, however, over nine days left in this sale. Any guesses on what 19 Rollies of varying quality and importance will pull down?
To view the listing of this peculiar fund-raising method, click here. Go Bruins!
(Thanks for the tip, Mark!)

Question by Katie W.
I bought it a while ago and its in almost perfect condition. I was wondering what starting price would be good for it on Ebay. With New Moon coming out maybe its worth more now than when I bought it.
Answer by april T
SOmebody is trying to sell one for $ 248 . You could start it at $ 50, but set a reserve price for $ 200. Remember that if it does not sell, you will have to pay the Ebay fees.

The key is to list it really good. Be sure to put Twilight in the heading. I would put it in movie memorabilia.
This price list has it at $ 60-$ 120 http://blogbeckett.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/twilightpricingpdf1.pdf
Here is one that sold recently http://cgi.ebay.ph/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300323742388 GBP 150 is equal to $ 277 US dollars
