One glance of Bulgari’s Daniel Roth Carillon Tourbillon Minute Repeater watch will immediately transport you to a visual experience in fine art appreciation. The research and development involved to bring this watch to fruition is undoubtedly well worth its notable price tag.

Bulgari is one of a select breed of haute horology manufacturers capable of in-house production of its movement as well as its timepiece research, development and actual production. Bulgari Daniel Roth Carillon Tourbillon demonstrates its brilliant expertise to produce results in particular with its hand-wound DR3300 calibre movement crafted entirely in-house. It consists of 327 parts and beats to the rhythm of a Tourbillon type regulating organ housed within a large sized carriage.

Bulgari Daniel Roth Carillon Tourbillon is the result of several year of careful development. Its design stems from “three hammer striking” mechanisms, an unusual configuration for a watch of this type model which usually consists of two hammers for Minute Repeaters, or four in rare cases such as Grande Sonnerie or grand strike models.

The miniaturization required to produce the required force and clarity of tone were governed by detailed parameters. The exceptional sized calibre with three hammers gives Bulgari Daniel Roth Carillon Tourbillon a higher torque which in turn enhances the acoustic resonance. The set of three gongs is affixed to the mainplate and is coupled with an inertia governor which keeps friction to a minimum when the striking mechanism is in action, hindering any audio interference.

The three hammer Minute Repeater chiming sequence striking three different pitches produces a C note for the hours, and E-D-C sequence for quarter hours, and a single E note for the minutes.

Bulgari Daniel Roth Carillon Tourbillon showcases polished steel for the hammers, gongs and tourbillon carriage and open worked surfaces. The finely decorated mainplate and bridges are metals from the platinum family, platinoids consisting of platinum, rhodium, ruthenium and indium. This high tech coating produces the metal and elegant black color which is visible through the case dial and caseback sapphire crystal.

The watch’s sturdy construction is protected by a pink gold case with Minute Repeater slidepiece on left side, which glides between 7 and 11 o’clock. The crown, instead of bearing Bulgari’s signature logo, is inscribed with numbers from one to 30, in keeping with the watch’s 30 limited edition pieces. It is also water resistant up to 30 meters and showcases well with a brown alligator leather wrist strap which is secured by a triple-blade folding clasp in 18K pink gold.

The Bulgari Daniel Roth Carillon Tourbillon is indeed a work of visual art whose limited edition beauty will place you in a hypnotic trance.

To make a sweeping generalisation, watches (and clocks) are made by one of two types of people; engineers or designers. At face value this statement is somewhat facetious, we all know that the design and construction of a timepiece takes a bunch of people, but at its heart there is truth to the statement. Take for example the darlings of independent horology, these guys epitomise the mythical watchmaker; solitary geniuses slaving over masterpieces of mechanical art.

On the other side of this coin is the industrial designer; who generally design timepieces using a different set of criteria and who are often less bound by tradition and convention than traditional horologists are.

The clocks being sold by Sotheby’s London in the Making Time exhibition are a case in point. Making time is an exhibition of 12 clocks by British designer Daniel Weil, who has previously designed watches for Swatch (along with a bucket load of non-horological work).

This new Bulgari Daniel Roth collection watch joins the ranks (small ranks) of million dollar plus timepieces from the brand. Offering a wildly complicated movement and inspiration from the Daniel Roth brand that Bulgari engulfed into itself, this piece is one serious homage to a love of horology.

Based on the commentary I have received thus far, people seem to dig the video Bulgari made about its new Daniel Roth Grande Sonnerie Perpetual Calendar watch. I must admit that it does work well when you make a watch look like a deity coming from space to save the planet – with chimes. Chime your well to a better like. According to Bulgari, if in operation all the time, the sonnerie function will chime over 433,500 times per a year. That is a lot of dings and dongs.

Bulgari says it takes about one year to build each of these watches. I believe that. There are a very small amount of people who are skilled enough to make them, and it takes along time to decorate the parts, assemble, and then test the movements. Actually, decorating the movement parts is the most challenging. That takes about six months. It then takes four months to build the movement, test it, take it apart, clean it, and then put it back together again.

Inside the watch is the Caliber DR 5307. It is made up of 923 parts and has 82 jewels (for those who wanted to know). One of my favorite things about this super complicated watch movement is that it is an automatic. Most all of the time watches like this are manually wound. Not only does it being an automatic make it more convenient, but it also makes it easier to store allowing you to put it on a traditional spinning winder so that you don’t need to reset it all the time.

What does that caliber DR 5307 automatic movement do? Well the function families are the time, perpetual calendar, moon phase indicator, grade and petite (little) sonnerie chimes, and the tourbillon. A full list of features is as follows:

-Westminster Carillon chimes
-Four gongs
-Grande Sonnerie
-Petite Sonnerie
-Minute Repeater
-Silence mode
-Tourbillon
-Perpetual Calendar
-Leap Year Indicator
-Month indicator
-Weekday indicator
-Date indicator
-Moon phases
-Automatic winding for movement and striking system
-Silent centrifugal governor
-Power reserve indicator for movement (48h)
-Power reserve indicator for striking system (28h in mode « Little »)
-Secured striking mode (during striking, the time setting system is disconnected)
-Secured time setting (during time setting, the striking system is disconnected)
-Secured striking system (the minute repeater is disconnected during striking in « passing » and vice-versa)
-Striking mode selector “chimes/silence » (rotating water resistant selector with indication)
-Striking mode selector « little/grand » (rotating water resistant selector with indication)

That is a lot of features and a very important thing to point out is that the Bulgari Daniel Roth Grande Sonnerie Quantieme Perpetual Calendar watch has both sonnerie and minute repeater functions. The first chimes the times at various intervals automatically, and the latter chimes the time back to you on command.

Even with its relatively complex design, all the information is displayed conveniently. I love that despite this there is some skeletonization on the dial as the date of the week and month discs are transparent sapphire over sections of the movement. Why are there two power reserve indicators? One is for the time functions and one is for the power reserve functions.

The watch itself is placed in an 18k pink gold case that is matched to a black alligator strap. Not sure about the case width or thickness though – but this isn’t going to be a small timepiece. It really is an incredible machine and I can’t wait to get some hands-on time with one.

According to Buglari each piece will be unique in some way (if only how the hammer and gongs are regulated and adjusted). Not sure necessarily what that means, but as they are each hand made it is possible to offer slight variations from piece to piece. If you haven’t viewed the above video yet I suggest that you do. Ready to put down your dollar bills? The Bulgari Daniel Roth Grande Sonnerie Quantieme Perpetual [Calendar] watch will be priced at 980,000 Swiss Francs.

Question by Numero Uno

WWE United States & Unified tag champion The Miz has posted a message on his WWE Universe page (link) responding to critics who say he’s not qualified to mentor Daniel Bryan (formerly Bryan Danielson) on the new WWE NXT show. Bryan is an accomplished wrestler who has had great matches for many years all over the world.

The Miz wrote, “It’s come to my knowledge that some members of the WWE Universe think they know everything about WWE and what it takes to be a WWE Superstar. They think that if a guy does well in the independent minor leagues, then all of a sudden he should be in the WWE. They think that if a guy can main event in front of a hundred people at a bingo hall, then he’s ready to main event at WrestleMania
. Just because fans on the Internet say you’re ready doesn’t mean you really are.”

Bryan is a great in-ring worker, but the Miz says he’ll go nowhere without learning how to be a star – a quality he’s been honing for years. “My job is to make Daniel Bryan a star in the WWE,” Miz said. “Let’s face it, if you look at a picture of him right now, do you think STAR? No, Daniel Bryan looks like my accountant … ordinary and bland.”

He continued, Maybe if he had The Miz’s charisma and look, he would have been in the WWE by now. Don’t hate on me because it didn’t take me a decade to get a WWE contract and go down in WWE history to be the first Superstar to win the United States Title and Unified Tag Team Titles.”

Miz give Bryan some credit by saying he “has all the talent in the world,” but said Bryan has a long road ahead and it will be the Miz’ job to unlock his true potential.

I COMPLETELY agree with the Miz, even though he was in character for this, there was alot of truth to it. He’s a PHENOMENAL wrestler, flawless in the ring. We know this. What else does he have? Just because the IWC loves you and the ROH fans love you doesn’t make you WWE material. I’ve said this alot recently, but not EVERY guy who’s great in the ring with a bland personality can pull off being the Malenko’s, the Benoit’s, the Storm’s, the Bret Hart’s. Not everyone can be that ‘serious’ wrestler to the point the mainstream fans want to get behind you. If you can work it, great. You’re gonna be successful but not every great in-ring wrestler can work it. It takes a special someone to work it. Benoit LOOKED tough. Danielson doesn’t look that tough to me. I totally agree with Miz here, and I’m willing to give their pairing a chance. I HIGHLY doubt Danielson will ever main event Wrestlemania, but there’s no shame in that because most guys don’t
Miz can work the WWE style though. Not every reality star can become a pro wrestler like he did and work it the way he does, so your argument doesn’t hold up
He’s also proved he can hang

I disagree because Miz got in through a reality show. He shouldn’t be saying that considering he didn’t get into the WWE due to skill, it was chance/luck.

Question by Ben

I know the SD MITB is for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship, but wouldn’t it be better if CM Punk returns around Survivor Series, sets up a title unification match at Royal Rumble (with the other WWE Champion), and Daniel Bryan cashes in on Punk at WM. Obviously a SD superstar would have to win the Royal Rumble, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sheamus win it, or even a returning Jericho.
Wouldn’t this be an IWC wet dream?? I know I’d mark out like a little girl at a Bieber concert!

Question by The Clown Prince of Crime

I mean, last night clearly showed Taker could still best the whole roster with the right opponent.

The insanely predicted match by IWC, Taker vs Cena, finally lost its chance of happening last night so we’ll have to search somewhere else.

Of course Taker going 20-0 by facing Jericho, Sheamus, and Punk in a 4-Man Elimination Battle Royal so he can actually defeat 20 men is also fascinating, but I’ll suspend my belief since Jericho isn’t even on the roster now.

The last time Taker managed to put over a youngster for good and for the rest of his career was against Randy Orton at WM 21. His 5 other attempts (Gonzales at WM 9, Bundy at WM 11, Boss Man at WM 15, A-Train at WM 19, and Henry at WM 22) has failed miserably (and rather understandably).

I’m not trying to sound like or join Bryan worshippers in IWC, but I admit that guy got talent and all (being HBK’s apprentice), so since he seems to be stuck in mid-carder and dark match level, I think we can agree the right feud with Taker can help him like it helped Orton. To top it, Taker has missed all the technical wrestling genius he encountered at Wrestlemania for the sake of doing Vince a favor and pushing talentless giants at Wrestlemania (Mr. Perfect for Giant Gonzales, Bret/Owen for Bundy, Benoit/Eddie for A-Train, and Angle for Henry), I believe simple matches like Taker vs Sheamus or Taker vs Miz or Taker vs Barrett alone can’t even begin to follow any of Taker’s last 5 Wrestlemania matces, so why not pit him with someone regarded as the best wrestler in the world, right?

It’s a pity Taker has never faced any WWE icons at Wrestlemania, but at least if WM 28 is indeed his swansong, going out by putting over the best wrestler in the world for the rest of his career doesn’t seem like a bad idea. And for those who say Taker can’t blend with technical wrestling genius, go watch Taker vs Bret at Summerslam 1997 & Taker vs Angle at No Way Out 2006 in youtube.

What do u think?
@Lord of Rock:

Taker/HHH at WM 27 also received near zero hype. Look what happened.
@Lord of Rock:

Randy Orton built his legend killer persona in one year.

Best answer:

Answer by The Lord Of Rock
no simply because no one will ever believe daniel bryan can end the streak, no matter how much hype they put into this.

and the streak has gotten so big its not about quality of match, is about how credible you are of ending it, triple h got the closest (II), daniel bryan has earn to the status of legend to be credible, and you cant do that in a year.
