One of the finest individual collections of Patek Philippe timepieces will be making their way to a Sotheby’s auction in New York this coming June. The collection was put together by Henry Graves Jr, and we gave you a peak at a few of the lots last month. Today we’ve got a video explaining a few of the gems you’ll see hit the block in June, courtesy of our man, John Reardon and our friends at Life+Times.
Read their full story right here and enjoy the video below.

The greatest watch collector of the 20th century, if not of all time, was Henry Graves Jr.. His rivalry with James Packard is, according to some experts, what saved Patek Philippe from bankruptcy – thereby making possible many of the developments we take for granted within the watch industry as a whole.
It was Graves’ supercomplication watch that sold for $ 11,002,500 in a December 1999 Sotheby’s auction – still the highest amount paid for any watch – and it is the Graves gang that remains the first family of watch collecting. The Henry Graves collection, built mostly before the second world war, was passed on to Mr. Graves daughter, who in turn passed it on to her son, Mr. Reginald “Pete” Fullerton. Pete, like his grandfather, was a perfectionist, and demanded that all the cases and dials not be touched in any way during services, and he requested completely original straps and buckles for all his watches. Mr. Fullerton is not really a known entity in the watch collecting world, as he rarely sold any of his collection at all and almost never spoke of it publicly. Mr. Fullerton loved these watches, and wound them daily, until the day the he died in March of this year. With his passing, Mr. Fullerton, the heir to the Graves watch collection and an impressive collector in his own right, asked that Sotheby’s handle the sale of his prized watches.
The Official Henry Graves Jr. “SOTC” photograph – eight out of the ten wristwatches shown will be sold this June.On June 14th of this year, Sotheby’s NYC will present the largest assembling of Graves watches on offer in history, with over 50 pieces for sale to public, thirteen of which belonged to Mr. Graves himself, while the others belonged to his grandson, Pete Fullerton.
We got an early look at the incredible collection yesterday in NY. Click through to see some of our favorites.

I’ve been a big fan of Chronoswiss watches since as long as I can remember. They have always struck me as the perfect affordable Swiss Mechanical dress watch for men. I’ve owned a couple of their Kairos models, in the knurled bezel 38mm cases and liked them but always found the larger Timemaster series a bit too clunky-looking for my liking Perhaps its the dial or the onion crown, but they just didnt’ work for me. With the Pacific Collection, I see another Chronoswiss watch that works for me.

The Pacific series comprises the Pacific, Grand Pacific and Pacific Chronograph watches. The Pacific is a 40mm watch, while the latter two are larger 43mm affairs. All feature ETA 2892-A2 movements or Valjoux 7750′s in the Chronographs. I’m quite taken by the dials on these retro-inspired Chronoswiss watches as the markers remind of the ones used by Zenith in their latest watches.
Superb. I can’t wait to own one!

Yesterday, IWC introduced their new Pilot collection of watches at Airport Eelde in The Netherlands. Besides the product presentation, done by their Head of Design, there was also one of the TOP GUN pilots explaining to us how important time is for a pilot.

In the picture above you see RJ pretending he is a TOP GUN pilot in a jet. In fact, the watch on his wrist is the actual watch of the TOP GUN pilot that was present during the event.
IWC restyled a hangar, with two very nice planes (a Spitfire and a L39 jet), lovely stewardesses and a great bar and a long table with room for everyone to enjoy a superb lunch. Friend of the brand Michiel Borstlap (proudly wearing a Big Pilot) made sure there was some musical entertainment as well. The Spitfire was something really special, it is one of the last 38 flying Spitfires and it was built in 1944.

Of course, we were there as well and had a wonderful time thanks to the entire IWC crew and all other participants. It was great to finally see some faces to names (Facebook, e-mail and so on). Below, the new top of the bill IWC Spitfire Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month (it will retail for 49.300,- EUR).

Our photo album at our Fratellowatches Facebook page has over 50 photos of the IWC event. Click here to go there and make sure to like our page. Expect to see some IWC Pilot watch reviews soon here at Fratellowatches.
