Some cool Jacob images:
The Children of Jacob H. Schiff by Augustus Saint-Gaugens .

The Children of Jacob H. Schiff by Augustus Saint-Gaugens .
.
Saint-Gaudens excelled at the art of relief sculpture: modeled forms raised in varying degrees from a two dimensional background. In this Ambitious double portrait of Mortimer Leo and Frieda Fanny Schiff, the sculpor’s technical command is evident, from the delicate, sketchy treatment of the Scottish deerhound’s wiry fur to Mortimer’s fully round foot extending over the edge of the plinth into the viewer’s space. the three-dimensional illusion is further enhanced by the architectural structure within which the children are framed. Their father, Jacob H. Schiff, was a prominent New York banker and philanthropist, who paid for the carving of this replica for the Metropolitan in 1905

On January 12th, 2010, the poorest nation in the western Hemisphere was hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Haiti has since gone through a period of slow and sparse recovery. I decided I wanted to help out, so I boarded a plan for Port au Prince. Accompanying me was a special watch from Linde Werdelin, a watch that I was told could take just about any amount of physical beating and remain strong. Over the next 4 days, I’d find out.
Sitting in the open bed of a pickup truck, driving over what can scarcely be described as a “road” through rural Haiti, I am struck by the unnatural juxtaposition before me. Haiti is a beautiful piece of land, home to a warm and friendly population. After the earthquake, Haiti is also a nation in tatters, much of that population relegated to tent cities and sub-standard living conditions. It is in this setting, that I put the Linde Werdelin Hard Back II through its paces, and hopefully helping some children along the way.

My son Nelson is 13 years old. I want to buy him a nice watch. Preferably a status symbol such as a Rolex or an Omega. We do have the money so the financial issues are of no problem. The only thing I am wondering is it appropriate for a child his age to own a luxury watch. I have seen most of his friends watches and they are mostly swatches or toy-watches. In my personal opinion a children’s watch should not just be plastic it can have precious metals such as gold, white gold or even platinum. If I could also have children answer that would also be great.

my coworker is almost 39 and has never moved out of the house yet. he is the eldest of the children of 4. is there something wrong with this picture? he bought a Porsche and does not pay rent. why is it the chinese culture, here in America does not allow their children to grow up and move out? i just dont understand. Steve has never moved out of his parents house and I dont think he will. I struggle to pay my car loan and he runs out to buy a Porsche! He wears his Rolex to work and he really is not wealthy, just spoiled. Are his parents to blame for this kind of irrational living arrangement? Fatima, his boss is chinese too, she thinks its typically okay to live like this. what is your opinion? i know that “you should not make your childrens lives harder by making life easy for them”

It’s absolutely none of my (nor your) business what other cultures do, or individuals for that matter. Take a look at the world – there is a lot of hostility out there as a result of one culture not agreeing with the traditions and ways of life of another, even when those traditions in no way affect the other culture. This is why terrorism exists. Is “Steve” affecting you by living with his parents and having a Porsche (other than making you jealous, which is really not his problem)? No, so mind your own business.

I don’t respond to hate mail, just so you know, but thanks for the insults – it amuses me to know you could get so worked up over my answer! No I don’t practice this tradition, I just have the ability to respect others who live differently to myself. Trust me, it makes for an easier life. There are so many things that parents do, whether they’re a different race/culture, or my next door neighbours, that are the polar opposite of the things I do as a parent. But, as long as kids aren’t being abused or neglected, and no laws are being broken, I have the ability to reserve judgement. Don’t judge any man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins!
