Cartier watches are known not only for their beautiful craftsmanship but also for their durability. These luxury watches are often passed down generations. One of Cartier’s newer creations is the Calibre de Cartier Astrotourbillon, which was produced at a limited amount of only 100 pieces. The watch is quite elegant and stylish.
This Cartier Astrotourbillon comes in a 47 millimeters diameter and 19 millimeters thick case that is made of titanium. The light weight of the titanium makes the watch extremely easy to wear on the wrist despite its large size. It is water resistant to 100 feet. Inside the case is a stylish dial with beautiful features. The hours are marked by large and bold Roman numerals that are easily legible. The hour and minute hands are sword shaped blue steels. On the side of the case is a heptagonal crown that is made of titanium and set with a sapphire cabochon. The crown is protected by a satin-brushed and polished double shoulder from any impact or force that might affect the watch. This back of the case is transparent and made of sapphire crystal.
The case houses the astrotourbillon movement that has unique features that make it different from the classic tourbillon. This manual winding caliber 9451 MC movement has a tourbillon carriage that has the balance spring and escapement systems. Unlike most tourbillons however, this does not have the whirling dances in a fixed corner, and the carriage is not on the same rotational axis at the balance and escapement wheel staff. Furthermore, the entire tourbillon assembly is above the rest of the movement between two dials and not integrated into the movement. The noticeably elongated carriage of the astrotourbillon allows for one revolution of the entire dial every minute. The arrow shaped balance bridge acts as a seconds display instead of a hand. The carriage is balanced by platinum counterweigh which is obscured by the central dial. The Cartier Astrotourbillon is very tough and can withstand shocks of up to 5000 Gs. The astrotourbillon measures 38 millimeters in diameter and is 9 millimeters thick. This 23 jewel movement has a frequency of 21600 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 48 hours.
The strap of the watch is a beautiful black alligator skin. The clasp on the strap has a double adjustable folding and is made of 18K white gold. The Cartier Calibre de Cartier Astrotourbillon is quite an impressive watch and very masculine.
